Need a little

Not sure if I am posting in the right section. I just had headers and catback exhaust installed along with a tune. For some reason the coolant overtank will not go down. I know when the car is running the tank in filled and lower when car is off or cooled down. Pic was taken after the car cooled overnight. No over heating or anything. Any ideas, thanks in advance.

Looks fine to me seddon! As long as coolant is in the bottom tank and you aren’t having any overheating issues, it should be good. Maybe some others will chime in but looks okay to me.

Upper coolant tank should always be full. Lower tank level will fluctuate. From owners manual:

Fill the surge tank top chamber
with the proper mixture to the
bottom of the fill neck. The top
chamber needs to be
completely full. Fill the surge
tank bottom chamber through
the service port to
approximately half.

Yours looks perfect!

FWIW. I never knew what that lower tank was for and when I removed the coolant reservoir for a header install, I never filled the lower tank up at all. I did notice however that when my engine was warm from driving the coolant in the upper tank was completely full and when it cooled down the level would drop in the upper tank to about the fill line. I assumed this was normal operation until one day on here someone brought up a topic about the lower tank and how the manual states it should be half full. Ever since filling that half full my upper tank is always completely full no matter if the engine is hot, warm or cold overnight.

I suspect it's just an expansion tank and will draw in or push out fluid from the lower as needed to keep the top full 100% of the time.

This is correct. The upper tank must always be full 100% of the time. The bottom tank is the one you add fluid to to keep it between the marks (~ 1/2 full) which of course are hard to see.

Great design from an engineering standpoint to ensure there's no air in the loop, but horrible from a owner/maintenance standpoint.

This manual page shows the purge procedure as well as a good graphic of what the two tanks should look like under normal conditions (hot or cold).
