Rear tire drag strip setup

I have a 2019 camaro 2SS and I need to get a rear tire and rim setup. I’ll be doing Rocky Mountain Race Week in June and want to be ready. Some people say 275/40/17, others say 305/40/17. Can someone please help me out. The tires I’m looking at are either Nitto 555Rll 275/40/17, and the other are MT 275/40R17 ET street S/S. But I’m unsure of what size rim I’d need.

I just got weld s71 17x10 with 305/45/17 et street s/s. Seems to be a common setup around here. Someone else can chime in on whether you need a 305 or if you can run a 275 based on wheels you’re looking at and power output.

Yup 305-45-17 Nitto 555r2 or MT Street R. As said above 10 or 10.5 wheel will work the best. The 10.5 will lay the tire flatter on the ground then the 10 and I've run both. Race Star has a reasonable drag pack and will be much cheaper then a Weld. I ran the Race Stars for 4 years on my Camaro. Loved them.

On a M6 I would go with 305s. On an auto you can go a little skinnier, but the 305s look so cool on Camaros so why limit the traction? They both can spin either size easily. And OP +1 on the 17" wheel size. While it looks a little wierd, the 17" is lighter than a 20" setup. See my pic. Also I am not aware of a 20" DR that is the exact same height as the stock setup. Although Toyo R888Rs are the right size for 20s, but this is a very soft compound. A good number of ZL1s run them and they come wider than 305.

To me my ET Streets are great every day tires. I would no hesitate when they get close to being replaced to take them at a higher pressure on a Road Track day and they stick like glue on the street. And if you are careful not so bad in the rain. But now sadly I am on my LT1 All Seasons. :(
