Remote Start Troubles?

As usual, I did a search here before posting......sorry if this has been covered.

My old 21SS and the new 23SS both SUCK at remote start?

I'm always shocked and or surprised when it DOES start.

I can be only 15 feet away and nothing.........
WTH am I doing wrong? OR.....is this normal? My trusty 2LT NEVER did that?

I admit to not reading that part of the owners manual. has something changed? Lock, Start, Unlock right?

Thanks much for any replies.

I think I've use remote start twice, but as I recall it is a) Lock, b) press and hold Start for several seconds. Press unlock after it starts.

15 feet does seem far to short a distance, but I know all 3 of my GM vehicles I can't be that far away from them. I have a 50/50 shot if my Tahoe will start standing at the window in my office at work pointing at it in the parking lot. Yes, Lock, Press Start for about 4 seconds. When you press start the tail lights will flash twice about a second apart. After the 2nd flash is when it starts. If you are doing all that, I'd suggest putting a new CR2032 battery in your Fob.

Wont start if the caution light is on. Get further than 15 ft..maybe 100? The App works for longer distances.

My guess is that you are experiencing the same thing I have time and time again... The remotes don't/won't hold communication with the car from any sort of distance -at all-. The convertibles have a way to put the top down with the remote, but it requires holding the button on the remote. I can't tell you how many times I tried this and only had success a few times when I was literally standing at the driver's door.

You could -try- replacing the battery in the remote (maybe the ones from the factory are basically all low charge?), but I wouldn't be hopeful.

Another thing you can try to see if it actually is a comm issue is to press and hold the remote under your chin. Face the direction of the car, and try it with your mouth closed and with it slightly open. This is touted as a way to increase the transmitting distance of your car remote and I have actually seen it work for my truck (totally different setup, but still uses a fob...

Mine is really intermittent. It will start from 2-3 blocks away on my way out of the office but it won't start from inside the house. It's an A10 and of course it's in park. I've not noticed that it matters if the E brake is set or not. I get clear transmission as the car locks/unlocks without a problem, but no start. I can go down there and stand next to it and still not start. Or it will.
It's a minor nuisance.

Owner's manual may be your friend on this.
How long are you holding the button? I had difficulty with hit or miss remote start with my 2020 Acadia since I bought it. Right up until last month when I finally looked at the process in the owner's manual. Says to press the start button for a min of 4 seconds. Now I count to 5, let go, and not a problem since.

You have to hit the lock button first even if it is already locked.

Mine works every time even at around 100 feet at work!

press lock lights flash
then press and hold start button for about 3 to 5 secs or until it starts
car will start and lights come on.

There's no key stroke pattern to mine when it won't work. When it won't it start, it doesn't matter and I've tried every combo and time/seconds. It will lock and unlock, but will not start.
When it does start, it's as advertised in the manual.

I’ve had decent experience remote starting while walking back to the car in an empty parking lot recently.

Never had an issue with mine, when in range you click lock once and hold the remote start button for about 5 seconds and let go. If there’s no issues on the car like CEL then it should remote start.

From my testing, it works within distances of 250-300ft with a clear line of sight. Interestingly I’m able to lock it at greater than 300ft sometimes but only once and it doesn’t get the signal until I get closer.

If there’s concrete walls or obstacles between you and the car then it may interfere.

Lock and Unlock are short signals whereas Remote Start is a "press and hold" operation. It could be signal related where the remote and car are unable to remain in communication long enough for the signal to complete. When I had issues with getting the top to open using the remote, I could immediately restart it after it stopped and Lock/Unlock always were fine as well. The problem was related to not being able to maintain communication until the operation completed.

If you have the app, try sending a Remote Start command through IT when the FOB fails and see what happens.

M6, so no remote start for me.
But I have noticed this fob is particular about interference. fresh battery helps, but once it's a little weak, a cell phone or work ID badge in same pocket with the fob can keep the car from starting, and this is when I'm IN THE CAR.

If you have a warning light, low on gas, it will not work. Also if you have multiple fobs and one happens to be in the car, it wont work either. (Found that out when I picked it up)

Lock, then press and hold remote start until it fires up. I use it more on the Silverado, but works every time for either vehicle.
