COSMETIC UPGRADES

Installed a couple of cosmetic upgrades I am pretty happy with. I got these 2 from www.wildhammermotorsports.com

16-23-camaro-dark-third-brake-lamp-dot-certified-general-motors Unassembled Stand Alone $105.00
1 × 16-22+ Camaro Dark Third Brake Lamp DOT Certified - General Motors

Note: you DO NOT have to take the inner truck lid liner out to get the old third light out. You can get it out from OUTSIDE the truck lid by very carefully using a plastic trim tool to pry it out gently. There is a wire connector that attaches to the center of the light. Just tape around the light with blue painter's tape to prevent scratching with the trim tool.

16-23-camaro-rear-dark-reflectors-wildhammer Unassembled Hardware $35.00
1 × 16-22+ Camaro Rear Dark Reflectors - Wildhammer

Now you CAN install these WITHOUT removing the bumper or diffuser. I took a dremel tool and enlarged the opening in the black plastic piece that sits BEHIND the bumper to be able to get a small screw driver in more easily into the one and only screw that holds each on of these on. I DID NOT have to remove the mufflers with exhaust tips either although access would have been easier if you DID.

ENGINE BAY COSMETIC UPGRADES

First off thanks to DAVE (SCCAFORUMS) for hooking me up with a link to these TRUFIBER CARBON FIBER dress up engine bay pieces. I saw these on his car and I really liked them so I snagged some for myself.

I have the radiator cover plate piece along with the side piece on each side of the radiator piece. I also got the FUSE Box cover. This is VERY high quality carbon fiber and maybe 3 pounds lighter than the stock metal radiator cover that these replace. These will set you back about 650 dollars for all the pieces shown but IMO well worth it. The side pieces are held on by heavy duty velcro tape which makes them easily removable if ever needed. The FUSE box cover snaps on TOP of the existing cover. It is a tight enough fit that I DID NOT use the double sided tape they provided .

Here is link:

Below is PIC on MY car.

Change in BRAKE Set up

Well going to Eagles Canyon with the CHIN Group tomorrow. I will be running some new brake pads. I was using DTC70 and DTC60 pads and I was very happy with their performance but they were extremely hard on rotors. I have won out three sets of front rotors (GIRODISC) and two sets of Zl1 1LE rear rotors over the last two years.

So....At the suggestion of Adam Poland at DOGHOUSE Performance I will be trying out some CARBOTECHS. I will be going with XP20 compound on the FRONT and XP12 compound on the rear. The front pads are a 1405 shape since I use GIRODISC front rotors. The rears are 1053 shape which are standard ZL1.

While I had the REAR rotors off I turned them and painted the hub center with a high temp 1200 degree BBQ flat black color (see pics of paint can). I also had the center hubs of the girodisc FRONT rotors CERAKOTED a satin black. The girodisc rotors came with an anodized red center hub but the heat had faded them badly. I will post up pics after I clean the car up after track day tomorrow.

How many track days roughly did your giro disc rotors last with the hawk DCT 70s?

That is my current set up right now

UPDATE PICS of Cerakote Caliper and Rotor Hat

Ok Below is a PIC of the FRONT wheel on my car showing off the CERAKOTE'd Calipers (bronze color) and the Rotor Hat (satin black CERAKOTE) on the GIRODISC rotors. The GIROSDIC rotors TYPICALLY come with the rotor hat anodized RED but they become very faded out under the intense heat of track use.

So when I replaced the rotor rings, I sent out the Rotor Hat and had it Cerakote'd prior to reassembly of the new rings on the rotor hub.

Cerakote holds up to over 500 degrees of heat which is far better than powder coat or anodized parts. I also installed SILICONE Brake Piston dust boots to help deal with the intense heat. I order some BLACK WING brake air ducts but they will be here LATER because the damn things are on national backorder.

VERY SERIOUS BRAKE UPGRADE (teaser)

Ok Guys,

AMP has just done a VERY Serious Brake upgrade on my car that really had a pretty substantial brake system on it to begin with but I thought THIS was necessary to push it to another level.

What you see here is an AP Racing (ESSEX) HEAVY DUTY (D62 width pad) with 390MM Rotor and YES it WILL FIT with my 18 inch APEC EC-7 ET25 19 x 11 inch wheels.

I will go into MORE specifics on the OPTIONS on this system and why it was spec out the way it was SHORTLY in some more posts that will follow.

Are these the same ones that Travis Lambert tried and tested already about 2 years ago?
Or are they a brand new updated and improved product?

Just realized you were starting with an SS 1LE, not a ZL1, so I imagine these are a serious upgrade for you, nice brakes!

Well actually we had already upgraded these brakes to ZL1 plus I was running vented brake pistons and Girodisc rotors and stainless steel brake lines with DTC70 pads

So the bottom line is if I am NOT a full second faster around a road course with this new set up then the cost will not have been worth it. My current fast time on ECR is 2.02.94. See video of that in my signature line below. So if I don’t see some 2.01 times then I will consider this upgrade ineffective and not worth the cost

I have NO DOUBT though that I will be. But either way I will post up results
