Yep. I have worked on some cars with what I thought were easy brake jobs, but the Brembos top them all. Brembos are just a pleasure to work with.

My guess would be that they were designed for super quick replacement from their racing experience.

Not sure about the MRR017. but the MRR M228's which I have were the problem wheels with the valve stem hitting the "skate wheels". I just cut mine off!! Problem solved. A lot of folks have done this on here. I for one have never had any noise issue from my Brembos, ever, and still don't. 113k miles on her now.

They're added for harmonics ( to absorb and reduce noise) they may also act as a small heat-sink but as they're surface area is relatively small it probably ain't very effective.

The actual reason for the "roller skates" was an attempt to reduce the noise that the OEM Brembo pads are known for.
They either change (lower) the resonant frequency of the pads and backing plates, or act as harmonic balancers. In either case, the purpose is to reduce brake noise.

At some point (don't know the model year), they were deleted from the brake design.

They sell brake pads with and without the 'skates'... I've worn both.

Result? the Skates help noise vibration and work. I will not ever wear pads without them on this ride again.
