Change diff fluid before first autocross?

The car is now broken in, and I have an autocross event coming up. The autocross event will probably be 6 runs at 50-60 seconds a piece. So, do I treat this like a track event and change the fluid or leave it for when I actually go to a track and change it then?

1st change at 1500 miles, next change after 20 hrs of track time. Repeat..

Consder autocross time as track time. Truth be told...it's far easier on the car (except maybe the tires) than a hardy road course.

Do it. The fluid is so cheap and the change is so easy.

Yeah, I know. I have it, might as well change it.

I'd recommend doing it. Manuals specify to change the diff fluid both between completing the break in but before the first track event, and then again after the first track event. I'm assuming that it's because the eLSD in these cars won't be fully broken in after just street driving (you'll get more clutch engagement when tracking). From there it's called out to change after every 24 hrs of track use.

It never hurts to change it. I've got 29k miles and many hours f track and autox and I've changed mine 5 times already.

I had my first track day last Wednesday and did the diff fluid before - there was a 1/8" of VERY fine grey sludge on the drain plug and the fluid looked pretty murky. I plan on doing another diff fluid change before my next track day - will advise on how much sludge I find.

Whether you're tracking your car or driving it every day, clean fluid makes parts happy.

Change it!

I had some sludge on my drain plug as well before and after my first autocross. I would change it. It is really easy to do.

Yes. I changed mine at 600 miles on just street driving, and the magnetic plug had metal shavings stuck to it.

After seeing that, i was glad I did it along with the oil and transmission fluids. It's nothing but good for any car to always have clean fluids.

1. It's easy and 2. if you care about the car, to which I assume you do since you are posting, it will be good to change it to wash out all the wear-in materials from the gears and get some fresh, new fluid in there.

Changed my diff fluid this morning - car hasn't run since I was at Lime Rock last week. See picture for what I found. 1 sliver on each plug, and about a 1/4 of the amount of "sludge" as I found after the first change.

You can see the slivers at exactly 12:00 on each plug.

I'd call this perfectly normal. On to Thompson Motorsports Park Monday.
