Cat-back / Tune Question

I have 100% stock 2016 SS M6. Looking to add a cat-back and seem to get conflicting info on weather or not a tune is required when adding a cat-back only. i will be keeping the stock headers and cats intact (for now).

Just don't want a check engine light or the car to run bad after bolting it up.

No a tune isn't needed. You can delete the secondary cats also without the need for a tune.

when they say the secondary cats are not monitored what's the deal...
i know you can buy kits and x pipes and such but its not going to throw a code?
i heard removing them is like 15 hp alone is that true?

No hard data on picking up 15 hp on the secondry cats that I am aware of. It will sound more raspy....

There are no oxygen sensors after the secondary cats, so they are not monitored by the computer. They're just like a "bonus" to help save the environment, and because they probably couldn't make the primary cats large enough to meet emissions targets. They are also very handy for covering up any unwanted fuel smell if the primary cats are removed. ;-)

Definitely do not need a tune just for a catback exhaust. While there may be slightly less restriction your cats are still doing most of the restricting on the flow and your O2 sensors aren't going to see any difference.

There's no way you're picking up 15HP by removing the secondary cats...it's solely a sound modification, nothing performance.

As others have said just doing a catback will not require a tune at all...and nor does the secondary cat delete...I believe they're on there just for KKKalifornia emissions but GM said screw it and just had them on there for every car.
