I don't know man. I think we have a rough crowd these days. The performance will have to justify the amount of time it took for them to build it and the price with markups. If it costs $98K after taxes, tags, and ADMs but runs a 10.9 then although that is fast, can you really say it's a good bargain as compared to a M5 which costs the same, has 4 doors (more room), has AWD, and has more luxury options without having to sacrifice one option for another?? Or a GTR? Or a Z06? So it all depends. In the Muscle Car world where you only focus on GM, FCA, and FoMoCo then it might be a good deal. But when compared to other competitors offering vehicles at the same price but also giving you much more for that money it would hardly be worth the price.

To me it seems that Ford just battles Chevy and Dodge, Dodge just battles Chevy and Ford, while Chevy battles much more expensive cars. The ZL1 costs $64K, comes with no markups, and offers performance that you'd have to pay much more money to the competitors to get something equal or better. So you can look at the performance and say you're getting a car that can compete with a $100K GTR for $35K less. Will we all be able to say the same thing about the GT500? Or for $80K you can get a Redeye that can only do a straight line. Meanwhile, and yet again, the M5 and the GTR can keep up with or beat the Hellcat family of vehicles AND dust it around a track for just a little more. The GT500 will have it's work cut out. Performance isn't all it has to worry about. The performance has to be worth what you're gonna pay for one.

With the ZL1 1LE, you get all the bells and whistles that come on the standard ZL1 minus the A10 and sunroof for explained reasons. But everything else is there. With the Hellcat you get a fully optioned vehicle without having to lose this or that when you add this or that. Ford won't do that tho. And that i what I don't like. If I buy one, I want all the options.
Fair enough. We will just have to wait and see how it plays out. It does seem like the "base" model is pretty fully loaded so we will see.

One thing that does seem like a high probability, is that since the DCT is the only transmission even the track pack equipped GT500's should still be pretty formidable on the strip

I had a '07 GT500 I was truly looking forward to this car. Now that it has been released, I'll be keeping the ZL1. I prefer the subtle styling of the earlier GT500s and the current ZL1.

Ford's press release says, "Next-gen active MagneRide suspension". Is this the new generation 4 Magneride that coming out very soon? The press release also says the GT500 will have the highest lateral acceleration ever on a Mustang. So maybe this car will at least match the ZL1 1LE going through turns on a track.
Yes it will with the carbon track pack. Ford has had 4 years to work with it. It's going to beat the ZL1 in everything. However, it will be hard to acquire a GT500 and will require 15K at least over the ZL1. ZL1 is still a very fast car and has great value. Also the only one out of the two with an optional manual transmission it appears.

This is the track pack equipped one:

Will surely be, what...25K over a ZL1? will be North of a Zl1's price point for sure and that's just the MSRP forget about ADM.

I fully expect this car to dominate the ZL1 variants. They've had 4 years now to build it. A small victory of a tenth or two isn't going to give them enough to charge the higher price tag over the ZL1.

Will Chevy respond?

Just drop LT5 into Zl1. Call it a day.

I’m thinking it will be 100k car. Gt350Rs were marked up to 85k. Still would take my Z over it but only bc the price will be 40k more than my car.

The new GT500 looks badass. Took a lot of the same design cues of the 19 Camaro refresh and made them look better.

Add some CCB's like we saw in the Z28 thread and you've got it.

Half a second in the 1/4 faster is pretty significant.

It doesn't have the suspension to take over top spot from the 1LE

Looks like ford is playing catch up to Chevy on this one. Ford finally has a real competitor for the ZL1 and ZLE. No doubt it’s a nice looking car that will perform, but I’m a GM guy thru and thru. One thing I don’t like is when car companies put a fake huge grill on cars and then block it off on the inside. That’s one of my favorite things about the ZL1. It’s all open for more air!
