2019 SS 1LE Quarter Mile and 0 - 60 REVEALED!

During a Road and Track competitive review, the 2019 Chevrolet Camaro SS 1LE's track time was revealed, being on par with the 2019 Ford Mustang GT (As expected from GM). It does 0 - 60 in 3.9 seconds, which is about a tenth of a second faster than the pre-facelift SS 1LE, and this is only in manual, meaning the aerodynamics seem to be really 'paying off'.

You can expect the standard Camaro SS with 10-speed to offer 0 - 60 in 3.8 seconds.

Yes, the technical explanation is the air wants to get away from the ugly, so less drag. It's genius imo.

Aerodynamics impacting 0-60 sprint? That's enough internet for today.

The 1/4 mile time (12.3) is identical to runs produced by the '16-'18 SS / SS 1LE. That 0-60 time is within run to run variation. Not even GM is advertising an acceleration improvement with the refresh.

0-60 is really a dumb matrix.

So much of it depends on tire condition, road surface, ambient temps., the operator working the clutch and throttle.

A better matrix is the rolling 5-60 or whatever you want to use. But even then, just new tires to old tires can change that number quite a lot.

Maybe this car had brand new fresh tires.

Frontal area aero doesn't really come into play until well after 60mph. Since 0-60 is a static variable, anything short of a massive rear wing won't play a role. It's more likely they got a better sample of the LT1 under the hood than their previous test car.

They should really stick these cars on a climate controlled dyno so they can also record that information before comparing 1 year versus another. More likely to glean a proper explanation for certain results "within the noise", as Motor Trend likes to call it.

Incorrect, the Camaro SS is not speed limited, it is drag limited. I have been in the OEM calibration and there was no limiter in my 1LE calibration.

The Camaro SS Coupe does indeed have a speed limiter in the ECM. JDP saw it in their 2016, and my 2017 definitely had it, set to 180. Don't know whether the stock car could exceed that by just changing to a higher number in the limiter, but the limiter is there.

Where in the OEM calibration did you look for the limiter in your 1LE?

M2C should take it every day in a straight line, they are dynoing around 405hp and 450-475tq, at the wheels, compare this to the SAE HP/tq of the LT1 measured at the crankshaft. Add the 7spd DCT and about 100lbs less weight, it's no mystery why it'll go faster in a straight line...around a track however, the 1LE kills it.
