LT4 blower on a 416
So I have decided to do heads and cam for my car and since the motor will be out I've come across the next thing to think about... stay 377 with pistons/rods combo or go 416...
Here's the thing, I'm on an LT4 blower and honestly not really looking into changing the blower I'm very content with it and my target HP isn't really much higher than what I have right now 685hp/722tq @ 10psi... I'm happy if I'm able to make 800-850 heck 900 if with my meth kit its possible. What are your thoughts on a 416 with a LT4 blower? This is a daily driver so my concerns would be reliability as I put a ton of miles (64K currently), driving mannerisms (never had a stroker car) and some fuel economy consideration (not concerned that much on gas but not if its like it'll spend 50% more gas, then, in that case, it would be a NO) I just want to poke your brains a little bit. Think the LT4 can move the 416 no problem? LME told me YES, TSP told me NO.

I am not sure why so many are fascinated with a 416. For NA sure yea I get it...for FI especially a small PD supercharger...No. 388 is what I would be looking at for a PD setup. You don't need anymore torque around 2-3k rpm that the 416 will add on top of what the little 1.7 dishes out and it's not going to make much if any more power then a 377. Now if you were talking about doing a F1x setup in a manual car, then yea I could see some logic behind adding some more stroke. On FI I would favor a square build or big bore short stroke. Aside from that you would be better served just doing rods/pistons and moving to a larger blower. That setup will walk all over a large stroke small blower combination. Talk to ya boy Pray.... jm2c

Should be fine, only thing I can think of is you should have lots of torque down low. Strokers tend to make lots of low end torque, couple that with a Roots blower and you should have lots of low end thru mid-range torque.
You are gonna need some massive fuel system changes, I would think the Lingenfelter big bore HPFP along with some of the +30% or +45% injectors and a cam with a +32 fuel lobe will be needed.

And I agree with King, if it was me I would want more RPM's over having lots of low end torque. All that torque does is make it hard to hook unless you are running dang near slicks all the time.
When my time comes I think I am going to worry more about being fully forged with as light of a reciprocating assembly I can manage with the AFM delete, then add in a cam with the +32 fuel lobe, larger injectors and the best HPFP I can find at the time. That and maybe have my Procharger D1SC converted to a D1X and then enjoy 900hp to the wheels.

Yea I agree 416 seems to be a common replacement but I don't see the advantages. Also keep in mind, Most of those base 416 engines have cranks that are weaker then the stock unit...you likely will be spending a decent amount of coin to upgrade(callies magnum) to something superior.

Longevity wise.. stay with the 377. You could daily a 416, just stay on the mild side on duration and LSA. Couple good cam threads on LS1tech if you want to open up some goos info. Lot's of guys in there daily-ing a 408-427. But again, for longevity, piston skirt wear, and power goals, I would go 377.

You'll see some gains but they won't be huge like some would think. If you were going to a bigger blower you might see more gains but if your staying with the LT4 just build a stock bore/stroke. Just my humble opinion.

Another vote for stock(ish) cubes. More cubes... More air in and out... More blower cfm needed.
