Get the tune.
Read this.... https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=542089 TLDR: GM CAI on SS1LE made the car slower than a 4cyl Camaro because the tune was never flashed. He got the car all straightened out, tune was never flashed when CAI was installed, car ran great after reflash.

I had the GM intake with the tune... and it was a 100% visual mod. The Roto-Fab, on the other hand, does actually flow more air. However, only the GM part is CARB compliant and allows you to retain the warranty. The choice is yours to make
EDIT: okay, saying 100% was an exaggeration, sorry, I'm not denying that the GM CAI also flows a bit more air than stock, but there was zero tangible impact on power or sound on my car. No other mods back then.

Wow reading mixed comments here. very simple go to your dealer and speak to the service manager about your plans, its what I did and it’s really up to your dealer. In simple terms, I don’t want to get elaborate because there is a lot of variables to this conversation. I bought mine at the dealer installed it my self, had absolutely zero issues, w/o tune . Took it in a week later for the ecu reflash/tune.
Again better deeeper throttle sounds , bit better throttle response . Again it’s just a CAI your not going to get much just looks for $450. For me it was worth it, I couldn’t stand popping my hood and seeing that ugly blk box.

Stupid question. Is it possible to run the Rotofab filter in the CAI cold air box?
I don't even know if it will fit but just a thought. It's a tad bigger it seems. May be a disadvantage I'm not sure. Just wondering if anyone has ever tried it. |

Then be sure to stop and confer with your dealer before making an appointment for the new tune. Initially the guy out front said no but when I got the sales manager involved, he was a total "car guy" and agreed "doing it yourself was what it was all about". Car has run flawlessly despite throwing a 95mm TB and MSD intake manifold into the mix. https://www.tickperformance.com/2018...dy-combo-deal/ I've also got a Velossa Big mouth ram air in a box in the garage (anybody else done a white one? car's white so I figured it'd look OK) that I need to get busy with. I figure its another part that may not do much but will look cool! Addendum- this is now done and it just keeps running better! If it it ain't broke don't fix it, so I'm leaving the tune as is for now. Peer pressure forced me to get a tune (although the car was running fine) in a can via Bully Dog programmer and the very excellent "dynosteve" at https://www.rdpstore.com/ The "hardest working man in aftermarket motorsport parts" today! The GM/CAI part is better looking than the RotoFab by far and neither really make a spit of difference in HP, but if you're gonna drop $400+ on looks, get the pretty one - LOL! Your friends are going to think the GM piece is much faster! I couldn't find a shot with the strut tower brace installed- but that's mostly for looks too! Have fun and happy motoring!
