Why does Camaro have lower skidpad numbers than CTS-V?

I have a question for all of you really good suspension technicians out there. In reading the testing that was done on the Camaro by a lot of the magazines, the Camaro was showing skidpad g numbers of .88 and the CTS-V had numbers of .94. If both cars are on the same chassis and neither one is lowered why does the CTS-V have better handling numbers?

Wheel base, magnetic ride control, 19" wheels, not sure about the tires on the cts-v

that's off the top of my head, but you can make a camaro turn ~1g no problem

Thanks for the info. Are the Magnetic shocks better than the Pedders coilovers?

CTS-V is Sigma II chassis
Camaro is Zeta II chassis

Just FYI

I think GM knowingly left some handling on the table, compromising NVH numbers over performance.

Depends on what your perameters are. the Magnetic shocks are better for offering a larger adjustable range automatically, but in terms of a performance strut, they are not.

Case in point, there was a CTSV that ran the autocross I posted about several weeks ago. The Custom Alignment Camaro, with our Xa Track system with street tires and a performace street alignment, with only a CAI and custom exhaust, was much faster on the coarse than the CTSV that had performance wheels and tires. Now, I have know idea how good the driver was on the CTSV, which makes a difference of coarse on ETAs.

But our Pedderized Camaro with our Xa's outperformed all the BMW M3s except one that had compound tires and was very modified.

Thanks

You would get a spirited debate on this from an OE engineer that has worked on the magnetic systems. You'll find various forms of electronic ride control on top shelf vehicles made around the world. The idea is that they adjust as you need them too and taken to the extreme become part of the vehicle dynamic stability system. They work really well.

Now if you talk to drivers, really skilled drivers, you will see that many prefer the predictability of a manually adjustable coilover. The reasons are that the manually adjustable coilover can be dialed in for a specific track or driving style. The response will be exactly what the driver is expecting with no surprises from the computer making an adjustment the driver didn't want made. The second would be height. You cannot corner weight a car with electronic shocks at this time.

Your question though was skid pad numbers. Check the tire sizes...
