Key Fob Has Incredible Range
One day at work I'm walking back to my office and I can barely see my car out in the parking lot though the second floor windows. On a whim I pull out my key key fob and hit the lock button.
What? Did I just see the lights blink? No way! The car is much too far away. So I try it again and damn, sure enough, the lights blinked. Here is a photo of my car from the window where I can barely see it, but still the fob works. It is maybe 100 yards. Anyone else observe something like this? |

range on mine sucks depending on where I am, at my house it is really horrible, with the gas company and electric company having wireless meter readers everywhere (like 200 show up on my wifi scanner) I sometimes have problems stand right next to the door of the car.
it was made even worse with the install of the fast pass toll road device and my dash camera, it seems any electronic device near the car causes interference with the remote.. at work though I think it has about 5-75 yard range, as I can usually remote start it from my desk, 9 of 10 times the car is running when I get out the doors..

Did you try the holding it to your head thing for a range extender?

I've tried the distance on my car and it seems to vary. Sometimes it will work from about 150 feet away. Other times it won't respond until I'm about 25 feet away. I don't know why it changes. Interference from something I guess. Anybody know what frequency it operates on?

Easy, the mass of your body becomes an antenna (in reverse) or something like that.

Easy, the mass of your body becomes an antenna (in reverse) or something like that. I'm not smart, so can't tell you how it works exactly. But it's probably like putting an extra set of jumper cables (two sets) to start a big block car with a dead battery - this worked for me, though my engineer friend said it shouldn't have. I may not be not smart, but am practical.
