Vengeance Racing's R&D 2017 ZL1 10spd!!!

In an effort to deliver both maximum performance and reliability with our customer’s build packages, Vengeance Racing purchases research and development vehicles every time a new platform is released. The 6th Generation Camaro ZL1 is no exception. We purchased this car from our friends at Rick Hendrick Chevrolet in Duluth Georgia and were one of the first in the country to take delivery. Having had several years of experience with the Gen V LT4 engine our main focus was on the newly released 10 speed automatic transmission. The ultimate goal with purchasing this vehicle was to get a head start on the transmission calibration as well as find the limitations of this new platform. Vengeance Racing takes great pride on gathering this knowledge from our own vehicles rather than customer cars.

Within Days of receiving out ZL1 we headed to Carolina Dragway for some baseline data and testing prior to any modifications. In stock configuration our ZL1 ran 11.28 @ 124. Next we worked with HP tuners to unlock the TCM to allow us to dial in and control the 10 speed automatic transmission. This would give us control over shift points, line pressures, and torque management for our higher powered build packages.

Our friends at ProCharger heard we had received our ZL1 and reached out to develop the first centrifugal supercharger conversion kit for this platform. After transforming many C7 Z06’s already and knowing the power limitations of the OEM 1.7L supercharger, we knew this would be an extremely popular conversion and were proud to be on the forefront of this setup.

The car was shipped out for R&D with Procharger with the first step being designing a standard D1SC system and air-to-air intercooler for customers looking for a moderate boost in performance. Later, they developed a “max-effort” combination consisting of the proven F1A-94 head unit as well as an all new air-to-water intercooler system that would remain on the car for further development at VR. This combination alone with no other modifications in place produced 640rwhp at the same boost level as the 1.7L comes with from the factory! This showed a lot of promise in the platform, and we knew that the power would grow substantially from here once our other engine modifications were in place.

To further the power output of this vehicle, we decided to proceed with our VR1100 performance package that had already proven to be a contender both on the street and track with our customer’s ZL1 in the video below. This setup had already made well over 1,000rwhp on the race fuel tune up, and ran a solid 9.50 @ 153mph in the ¼ mile on a 20” Mickey Thompson street radial. This setup also retains all OEM functionalities and creature comforts in the car, as well as excellent driveability to remain a true street beast. The VR1100 package consists of:

• Procharger F1A-94 Supercharger System
• Procharger Air-to-Water Intercooler
• Vengeance Racing Trunk Mounted Ice Tank w/ Stewart Pump
• Vengeance Racing CNC Ported LT4 Cylinder Heads
• Vengeance Racing Custom Locked Camshaft Kit - Upgraded valve springs, pushrods, lifters, timing chain, etc.
• ATI Balancer
• Kooks 2" Longtube Headers w/ Full X-pipe and Muffler System (black tips)
• Vengeance Racing Custom Billet Valve Covers w/ Coil Relocation
• AlkyControl Dual Nozzle Methanol Injection
• Vengeance Racing Auxiliary Fuel System
• 180* Thermostat
• Moroso Catch Can
• BMR Lowering Springs
• Innovate LC-2 Wideband Controller
• Tuned on 93 octane and C16

Late Model Engines custom built a set of one off Vengeance Racing valve covers specifically for our ZL1 and in true LME fashion they turned out amazing.

Once the install was complete it was time for our Vengeance Racing ZL1 to hit the dyno. With this combination we produced 930rwhp on 93 pump gas and over 1070 of Exorcist slaughtering rear wheel horse power on c16. As we all know, dyno graphs don’t win races, so it was off to Carolina Dragway to further testing in the ¼ mile ending at a final run of 9.30 @ 153mph while still on the 20” drag radial!!

Once the performance modifications were in place, we received a warm invitation from the team at Procharger to have our ZL1 proudly displayed at the 2017 SEMA show in Las Vegas, NV! We of course welcomed the opportunity and got working on a few additional aesthetic modifications to help dress up the car and ensure a positive presence amongst the other elite vehicles that would be at the show. For this we called on our friends at Vossen wheels to assist with a set of VPS-301 forged monoblock wheels, BMR Suspension for a set of their 2016+ Camaro lowering springs, and even had our friends at Late Model Engines develop an all new one-off set of raised letter valve covers specifically for this vehicle which came out better than we could have ever imagined!

Who's 180* T-Stat are you all running? I have run through six 180's so far from a crappy design. I would be very interested in getting min from you guys for my builds if your design doesn't fall apart after a dyno session or track day.

Oh yeah, good work on the Z.

PRAY give me a call 678-513-7105 or email me at Sales@vengeanceRacing.net. We have not had any issues with our 180* Thermostats and run them in all our vehicles.
