Tires on stock ss rims

Looking to purchase the Michelin pilot sport all season 4. My rims are stock 8.5 in the front and 9.5 rear 20 inch. I want to go wider then manufacturers recommendation. Right now it's sitting on 245/40 and 275/35. My ideal sizes I want for the front is 265/35 and 295/35 for rear. Would this work on stock rims? I saw people saying that they put 305 in the rear but needed to reroute wires and make a slight hole by the wheel guard and I believe those were zl1 wheels. Just want to simply purchase new wider tires and thats it. Can anyone shine some light and actually have done this before without any issues. I own a 2020 camaro 2ss if that makes any difference. Thank you in advance.

On my 2016 1SS with stock staggered wheels: I'm currently running RE71's (I needed sticky for autocross and that was the only sizes they had) in size 255/40R20 Front, 285/35R20 Rear. I would bet that is the biggest that's going to fit. The fronts just barely clear, and the rears did rub the fender liner slightly.

When you say wider than manufacturer recommendation, are you saying Michelin or GM's?

A shop can install them, but would probably caution you that the tire sizes you chose are slightly larger than what the wheels should have on them.

I would personally drop them down to 255/35f and 285/35r. Those are the largest sizes you can put on stock wheels.

Thanks for your feedback. However, the zl1 wheels I believe are 10 and 11 wide and can fit in an ss model. With that setup the tires are for sure wider.

I wouldn't do this. Your new 265/35 fronts will be 1.4% shorter, while those 295/35 rears are 1.8% taller than stock, which means the difference in front:rear ratio vs stock you're introducing is 3.2%, right around or slightly above the threshold that sends Stabilitrak and ABS to crazytown.

Like others, I suggest that you stick to 255/40 and 285/35 as maximum sizes with your stock wheels. If you really want to go wider, embrace the need for new wheels (1LE for the win )

You'll want to get wider wheels if you want wider tires. I recommend 10 larger on the width at the most on stock SS wheels.

You're suggesting 255/40 for the front instead of 255/35? And rear 285/35

Yes he is. the 255/35 is too short. Stick with the 245/40 or 255/40 for the front and go with either the 285/35 or 295/35 on the rear.

Got it. Thanks. I think if anything I'll play it safer with the 285/35 rather then 295 unless someone knows for a fact it will be fine on stock ss wheels which are 9.5. Thanks again everyone for your input.

I run 305/35/20 on the stock rim and it's fine. That being said some tires run narrower then others. The first run 305/35 Nitto 555r drag radial fit the stock wheel perfect, the 305 555r2 runs wider and had I known that I would of went 295, but it still is ok.

Moral of the story is a 295/35/30 will work perfectly fine.

I use this page as a guide on choosing tire sizes.
