Extended Warranties - Which one and how much?

Coming up on 12k miles, so am considering getting an extended warrantee.

What did you get and how much did you pay? I would like to be armed with real info of what others have paid before I talk to any sale people. Thanks in advance!

If you're considering doing something that will void the warranty...buy later?

I work at a dealership. They sell an aftermarket warranty that is pretty good. I chose to go with the Chevrolet Protection Plan. I don't do as many miles, so I went with 84 month or 75,000 mile bumper to bumper. I paid cost, but I can't remember how much exactly. I think around $1,750.

I went with Car Care 1. It was like 600 bucks for an extra 4 years 100k miles. Haven't used it yet since the car is still under factory warranty till Nov 7th, 2018. So I feel a bit dumb to have it and having paid for it so far lol.

Wait until you have around 34k miles and still under the 3 yr. It will still be concidering new, which means the lowest price. Then get either the #1 Chevrolet Protection Plan or #2 GMPP

Oh, is it possible to still buy one with that many miles on the car? I was under the (apparently mistaken) impression that one had to purchase with under 12k miles.

You can check, but most are still considered NEW when under the 3/36. They run concurrently, so if you get it at a year old, the contract is 8 years, you effectively only get 6 cuz you still are covered under the factory and no contract will cover a factory warranty repair. You'll get rental faster, but big deal. The 5/60 powertrain coverage is a mixed bag.

Warranty companies keep on top of factory coverage and adjust the programs to catch it because the dealer will still try and call it in and then play dumb when they get caught.

My recommendations of CPP is less BS overall and if you have MRC they cover the Struts/Shocks. GMPP does as well. With all companies you have to check the contract under "What's Covered" and it will list the components, but usually under the 'Exemptions ' page.

Also, these contracts are not subject to the Magnuson Moss Act, have it clearly printed under 'what's not covered' mods and track use.

I was told the longer you wait the more expensive the warranty cost. The dealer told me that so who knows.

You can wait until the last day of the factory warranty or 35,999 miles to purchase extended warranty... Some will even be more forgiving and allow a little extra time and mileage...$1,500 to $2,000 for a good company...
