Headers: Install and Tune Cost?
Hi guys, first off excuse my ignorance but this is really my first time diving into more serious mods such as long tubes and such. I wanted to get a feel for what a reasonable price is to get a set of headers installed and tuned. I was quoted a little over $4500.00 to get it all done by a local shop which seems pretty high to me. I was hoping to get any feedback from anybody who might have more experience with this. I appreciate it!

That sounds a bit high. I will be straight up I don't know much about the LT stuff but I know a lot more about the LS stuff which they are 2 different animals.
Your car is a 2016 right? Reason asking because it cost more credits to tune 17 and up 1.) What brand header was they going to go with and was it a off road or catted setup? 2.)Did that come with Cold air intake in the price? 3.)Is the shop your looking at specialize in LS/LT stuff? I don't know exactly where you are in New York but if I was up that way I would look at: Race Proven Motorsports very hard look at their Stage 2 package they in New Castle, DE or Complete Street Performance Fast Lane packages for the 2016+ Camaro SS they in West Chester, PA That's just my opinion, not taking anything from any other good shops up that way or ones I don't know of. |

Taking your post literally, if the price is just to INSTALL LTs to the stock exhaust system and a dyno and street tune, that is very very high.

Hey guys thank you for the responses. Just to clarify a little bit more I'm located down in Dutchess county. I just got the cost break down and the shop broke it down like this:
2016+ Camaro SS/ZL1 1-7/8 headers .................. 1,329.00 2016+ Camaro SS/ZL1 3Inch OEM Green Catted Section ............... 1,155.70 Header Ceramic Metallic Coating ..................... 299.00 HPTUNER License Credit ......................... 2 @ 55.00 = 110.00 Stainless O2 Bung .................. 5.95 O2 Bung Plug ..................... 5.95 Welding Materials ................. 76.90 Install Kooks LT Headers and Green Cats to Factory Exhaust ....................... 875.00 Dyno Tune ..................... 720.00 Shop Supplies ....................... 20.00 Waste Removal .................. 10.00 Shipping and Handling .............. TBD I know Kooks are probably the best choice out there for headers, but I'm thinking it might help to get Texas Speed or maybe even a dynatech header? It looks like $2110.30 for just the labor associated with the install. So my apologies in my OP. I also know that this Gen V LT is notorious for having pretty much next to no room in the engine bay so taking on something like this in a garage with a jack stands is probably going to be a huge headache. |

Texas Speed catted LT's $900, install $500 in NC, maybe more due to cost of business where you are (GPI charges $440 or so), tune $900 at most. Or if you want TS catted Y pipe set up $1300.

That seems a lot more reasonable, I was also checking the CSP505 package from Complete Street Performance and it seems like they offer a lot more in that package for $2700 than the shop who gave me the quote

Look up EFX Tuning in NJ and give them a buzz. They are a full service shop that I use for my modding.

It's not that bad. We did the install in my friend's garage on jack stands. It took about 8 hours and we took alot of breaks. Have you tried doing plugs and wires on a LT1 in a 4th gen. Now that's a pain in the ass. Lol

Those green cats are not necessary. Just get the regular high flow, or heck even just the plain connection pipes.

OK, makes more sense. Stay with the Kooks. Please. Stay with the green cats. Stay with the coating. Make sure the tune includes a dyno and street tune. Add in a good set of plug wire sleeves. You will thank me later. Do NOT deviate from this plan. Good job!
