2019 2SS: Front dashcam suggestions .. and wtf is the lens behind the rearview?

Reference: I have a 2019 2SS Coupe

Since my entire state is full of idiots and there's a, "close call", on the interstate about every other day, I want to invest in a front-facing dashcam. I really want one that would blend in, and also not end up with a cable or anything lying around.

I am considering the Vantrue S1 (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...UKE5JK9T&psc=1), as I really like the design and how it would blend in when installed. Unfortunately, I really can't tell which manufacturers are legit and make quality stuff, and which are knock-off Chinese garbage. (This is the exact same issue I had with IP PoE security cams for the home, and took hours of reading to filter them out). Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Also, wtf is this?

Performance data recorder. Hit the home button on the infotainment. It'll be labeled PDR. There's a memory card slot under the steering wheel.

Hmm, I do not recall seeing anything labeled, "PDR", on the home screen. I'll have to check again tomorrow morning. Thanks!

Good, so I'm not crazy that it's a camera. I thought it was, but I couldn't find any sensible means of accessing it.

I probably overlooked it and will look again tomorrow. Thanks.

Asking about dash cam recommendations while literally posting a picture of having the factory dash cam, not sure if this guy is trolling or what?

I think it is not a dash cam or pdr camera. It is for front collision warning system. My '19 2SS has also that camera there is no pdr menu in the infotainment.

You either have one or the other but not both.

When you buy the car it’s either u chose when you order or select a car off the lot. To bad Chevy doesn’t let us have both. So you have to pick FCA or a PDR.

My PDR selection is on the last screen u have to move over to last page to see the PDR settings.

On my 2016 Camaro SS I had the Vantrue N2 Pro Uber Dual Dash Cam Infrared Night Vision.

Here’s a link about another camera that Lethal Garage did.

If you really want one that blends in, don't get one with a built in screen. You can eject the microSD card and put it in your phone (may require buying an adapter) or computer to review footage or transfer it to your phone via wifi or bluetooth on some models (slow). Also get one with a capacitor (not battery) so it can tolerate when the car gets hot sitting out in the sun during the summer. I am happy with the GitUp F1C 4K dashcam I got recently.

You can tap power from wires behind the map light console above the rear view mirror to hide the power cable.

Want something small and reliable? check out the Garmin Dash Cam Mini (BestBuy has them for $90)

The APEMAN form Amazon is pretty righteous although it had a long cord, turns off and on automatically and you can rotate it toward either door, and it had a sensor for when d==someone hits your car it starts recognizing, I like it.

Thanks. It's the FCA camera, not a PDR. I do not have the 1LE package.

I just installed the Blackvue DR900S.

It has 4K resolution, cloud storage or SD card option, parking mode recording.

Combined with the Power Magic EZ to use your existing OBD port, you don't need to hardwire or splice into the fusebox etc.

You dont have to have a 1LE to have the PDR, it is an option. But yes, more than likely that is the FCA camera.
