Stock exhaust pinched down
Had my 2019 SS on the lift for the first time and noticed on both exhaust pipes near the back the pipes are pinched in almost halfway? Has anyone else noticed this? Can anyone tell me why they would do that? Seems restrictive but I'm thinking that might be where all the pops come from but I really have no idea.

Normal. It's there to make room for the extra bracing for convertibles and it's cheaper to have one version of the exhaust vs multiple versions. Tests have shown there is no loss of power( stock at least) with that crimped exhaust.

its pinched down but wider through that section so it doesn't really cause a restriction...just looks like shit when you first see it. lol

well, to be fair, it was discussed a bunch when it was new news back in 2016.
crushed exhaust pipes over near the cats are not going to impact performance at all. The exhaust is too hot to matter. Many tests have been done (some very scientifically) on creating exhaust restrictions via bashing in headers and the exhaust pipes near them with sometimes better effect than the non-crushed originals, but never really statistically changed. Literally 1hp ...maybe 1/3 of 1% up or down. It's about controlling the sound profile or clearance more than anything else. as others have stated. |
