Cause you know, it's not like Tesla promised a $35k base model when they took those thousands of preorders...

I still can't fathom why anyone put down an early deposit on the Model 3.

If you believed Musk, you knew that you'd be getting your car sometime in 2018 because of the 10,000 a week that he'd be building. In which case, there isn't really any need to be at the front of the line for one.

But if you knew that was BS and it would be a couple extra years (on top of the wait for the start of production) before you got your car ... why not just keep the cash yourself?

I actually think the cars Tesla has put on the road are attractive. Especially the Model S. Guy on our softball team has one, IMO it looks fantastic. But for the most part I agree with you. EV's are hideous. Main reason I would never own one is it looks like an EV. make one that looks good and it might get considered.

Making them look like an EV is part of the "virtue signaling" associated with owning a EV.

I think some of that had to do with qualifying for the federal tax credit. You had to beat a certain deadline to qualify for it. It only applied to a certain number of cars each year....Something like that, not sure.

Not to mention it really wasn't a 35k base because there were options that were mandatory putting the price higher..

True, but I think a lot of people my age and teh people that follow musk blindly is for that reason, Tesla's don't look like electric cars. I remember the first time I saw a Model S, I was like what the hell kind of car was that! Even the model 3 doesn't look electric.

I think the problem is a lot of people wanted to be the first ones on the block with a Model 3, but they expected to pay $35k out the door and not a penny more. Summer of 2018 is coming up now and Model 3s are slowly tricking out onto the streets, but those $35k base models are still nowhere to be found and those people's deposits were probably burned by Tesla months ago.

Couple of days ago Musk said the model 3 handless around a track better than any comparable car, now today he admits it has a braking problem that's been documented.
