If you did not have your impala, and both vehicles offered you the XTS and the Impala (but the 2LTZ) which one would you choose?

Cadillac was too pricey for me....Not sure what a 2LTZ is all about, but I wanted the 6cyl to stay away from start/stop, etc...

I'm sure the Caddy is overall much nicer, and a lot more expensive, but for me the Impala (Premier) worked fine.

XTS also comes with the twin turbo 3.6 V6 and all wheel drive.

I recently put around 2500 miles on a rented Impala and it was surprisingly nice. Rode well, was comfy, and the fuel mileage... low to mid 30's... was impressive.

From the Order Guide released yesterday, sounds like the 2019s will indeed just have minor equipment changes. No MCE.

Start/stop. What a idiotic idea. At least GM isn’t the only one, unlike the debacle that DOD is. Some brands allow you to turn it off. Not GM though. Impossible to deactivate on my fathers 2018 Buick Envision. It makes a thud when you come to a stop. He took it back to the dealer as he didn’t know what it was and they told him to watch the tach and he’ll see it goes to zero.

Bad execution isn't the same as a bad idea. Stopping the engine when its not needed, so long as you can get away with it, makes a hell of a lot of sense. Doing such a terrible job at implementing such a system that people take their car into the dealership thinking its broken is inexcusable.

Also: both Dodge and Honda have used cylinder deactivation. Maybe others too.

Have they stuck with DOD?

The new Silverado can shut down 1-7 cylinders. That just sounds like a huge problem down the road.

Dodge for sure has. And I'm about 90% confident that Honda has too.

As for GM's newest version, as I understand it the hardware is on all cylinders & the 'inactive' cylinder(s) rotates between all of them so any wear or carbon buildup or other similar problems should be minimized. Won't help anyone complaining of drone with their aftermarket exhausts or things like that, but thats going to be pretty low on GM's priority list.

Mercedes, VW, and Audi all use it. VW was first to use it with a 4-cylinder engine. Ford is about to offer it on the 3-cylinder Fox engine.

I’m sure the German brands do a far better job with the execution.
