After owning a couple 5th gen SS Camaros and a 6th gen SS 1 le I still wanted the look of the zl1, and couldn’t bring myself to put the hood and bumper of the z on any of them because it wasn’t a zl1. In retrospect I should have bought the zl1 in the first place and saved myself a bunch of money.

I'm not a fan of false badges, but the rest I could care less about. We all like to add better parts to our cars and if it's OEM even better. I think you may see a lot of ZL1 badges on SS because a lot of guys buy the the OEM stuff and it has the ZL1 badge already on there. I could be a poser myself as I added all the OEM 1le stuff to my 10spd because the 6spd was physically not an option for me... and I have 5th gen z28 wheels lol. Problem is even Chevy does this too, I know a lot of C7Z06 guys were bummed when Chevy added the z06 widebody to the C7 and called it a Grandsport.

Not something I could EVER do, but some people do it. I think the front end and hood are one thing.....like if its a custom car with lots of things done to it. But badging it as a ZL1?.....NO. That is just wrong. Its not a ZL1 so dont badge it. I personally am COMPLETELY over the whole "Tribute" bull. Even in older cars. Just make it your own custom car no need to badge it ZL1, Yenko, Shelby, Baldwin, etc if it IS NOT one?! Ok rant over......

Now if you run that stuff on a V6 and badge it as a ZL1, well personally I think it’s wrong. Run the parts, don’t badge it as something it isn’t. Mind you, I guess I’m kinda a hypocrite cause I must admit I have seen clones regarding older cars that look awesome. Yenko and Shelby clones. Awesome but still doesn’t really feel right if you know what I mean. |

Imo it’s wrong to do that to a non ZL1. I hate when people try to make their Camaro into something it’s not. Actually it might be cheaper in the long run to own a real ZL1 instead of buying all the parts to convert over(fenders, hood, wheels etc).

I remember back in the 70's, quite a few guys in the small town where I grew up added Z/28 emblems on their first or second gen Camaros. I remember a few LT-1 stickers from the original 70-72 Corvette small blocks getting stuck on cowl induction or L-88 hoods guys had put on their Camaros even though the engines were usually just smoggers. So the practice goes way back, always frowned on back in the day.

I bought ZL1 interior door panels for my SS. Dyed the stitching black so I doubt anyone outside of a 6th gen owner would notice a difference. Just need a switch blank panel to replace the memory seat buttons..

Fake badges hahaha. Those are the You-Tubers that post videos that their Honda Civic Type R beat a ZL1. It’s nothing but trouble and it’s riding dirty.
