You could try scanning through the Goonzquad youtube vids "Rebuilding a wrecked ZL1". The front end of that car was pretty well trashed and they replaced most of it over the course of 3 or 4 videos. Those two are along way from Weber University level, but they are much more entertaining and actually do show a fair bit of detail in between each "Daaaaaaaaannngg Dude!"

So after fighting with a bunch of things, i decided that it would be easier to remove the motor. I've seen shops do it with the engine in the car, but it seems like more work. I wasted a day trying to do it in the car. Also being that I had to change the front cover to the LME billet one, the oil pan needed to be removed to unplug a sensor thats plugged into the bottom of the oil pump. After that was completed, I had to measure for new pushrods because of the texas speed roller rockers. They should be here today along with my BMR engine mounts. The factory brackets that bolt to the block take up so much room, I refused to put them back. I fought with them installing the headers too. The motor should be able to go back in later on today but i cant button everything up until my replacement air/oil separator comes. I broke it removing the water pump. Heres a few random pics I took during the process.

Disclaimer: Im not a mechanic. I just like to work on my own vehicles.

It took about 5 hours to get mine out from the top but better then dropping it out from the bottom in my opinion. Don't think you can pull a M6 motor out from the top.

Yea since it was my first time, I wasted alot of time taking things apart in the engine bay thinking I was going to be able to do the cam in the car. When I pulled the front cover and saw that harness that went down into the oil pan, I wanted to cry LOLOL. If I would have focused on pulling the motor from the start I would have been finished on thursday and also wouldnt have broken the air/oil separator that I am still waiting for.

You lucky bugger.
Good luck. If timing is right I’m gonna take the new beast on a road trip to watch this.
Hopefully I’ll be able to stop by and say hi.

Car sounds great too

Thanks guys. My only complaint is the bmr engine mounts lower the motor slightly and now when I turn the bolt from the steering shaft touches the header. Going to find an Allen head bolt to replace it. Feels good to have a car that I built/tune on my own and it still works lol. The 2 trickiest parts were measureing pushrod length and measuring the high pressure fuel pump.

I have the BMR mounts also, mine were fine and had enough clearance. I added the BMR driveshaft loop and I had to use the trans spacer to clear the 3.5 inch GForce Aluminum driveshaft. That lowered the engine slightly and the header tube almost touches the BMR motor mount on the passenger side. I must say I feel more vibration now with those installed plus with the aluminum DS you loose the rubber mounts on each end of the DS. Its very noticeable when cruising at highway speed. Are you planning on running E85? I agree on the Fuel Pump lash cap.

Wicked build and great thread...good job man !!

What is the DA at your drag strip?

Im doing a bolt on mod this spring with ARH 2" headers, 3" exhaust, Kong ported SC, 103mm TB, roto fab big gulp, 9.55 pulley and 93 octane tune.

Our track DA sucks in central BC with DA's at 4000 and sometimes 3500 on a good day. Elevation is 2400 ft. Goal is 10.5 with A10 on 20" MT DRs.

Your sound clips don't work for me....do you have youtube vids?
