Camming 100k Mile SS

I'm looking to cam my camaro but I am just worried because it has 100k miles on it. Its a 2012 2ss ls3 manual. I am just wondering if I should even bother camming it or will it just blow up in 10k miles. I am planning on doing the GPI route and getting new supporting mods like lifters, oil pump, valve springs, pushrods, other stuff like that. Do you think its a good idea. I just got the car last year and I dont really want to go and get another camaro even though I could get one with lower miles. I love the car I just don't know if its worth it. Also if anyone has any reccomendations to rebuild kits or cam kits that I should do rather than GPI let me know. I just talked to Andrew from GPI so that why I was going to go with them. Thank you.

Dude your engine is it's prime. 100k isn't anything. I cammed mine at 150k and had it rebuilt at 170k but it after tearing it down the block was in great condition still and really didn't need it. As far as GPI goes and Andrew, you can't go wrong with those guys, they are the best in the business. So I wouldn't worry at all about camming your car at 100k.

+1 on what MPJ posted. If you don't have a good tuner I would highly recommend a mail tune from GPI with HP. Ryan has my tune dialed to the point where we don't think a chassis dyno session is necessary. As far as drivability is concerned here is a link to Andrew's max 2.0 build. You might not be going this far but it gives you an idea just how good these guys are @ getting these builds right.

^^ Totally agree here!! We tore into mine at 98k, hard miles!! When we got heads and everything all off it was sparkling clean! My builder/tuner couldn't believe it! Now I have 130k hard miles on it and she is just fine, so far. As stated, these engines are just getting "broke in" at 100k.

I had GPI put the SS1 cam in my camaro at 90k miles 4 years ago and this past year I added a LSA blower and shes still going strong! I did have them change the oil pump while my motor was out and of course did all the upgrades on the valvetrain. I think you should go for it man.

I did cam and all supporting mods at 80k and tossed a beating on the dyno. It’s always a chance but it might of happened anyway. But camming the car was the best thing I ever did to my car and don’t regret it at all.
I also bought the car with around 65k miles so don’t know how much the person before me abused or red lined the car.

I'm specifically waiting to cam until I hit 100k, since I have the auto and figured those DOD lifters probably should be swapped around them so might as well do it all at once. Nearly at 70k now, bought the car year and a half ago at high 50s so probably not as far out as I might think, which is for the best since a second car is not in the financial books for the near future and I doubt it's a weekend and done job.

Read Big Bang theory originally from hot rod magazine… you’ll never worry about your engine life with mods at 100K again I promise.

I’d do it sooner than later. AFM had about a 75k lifespan it seemed from research and the general consensus on here. I got rid of it all around 52k.

Yeah I'm trying to keep ears open, from what I hear a collapsed lifter is not the end of the world (talked to friends, guess some have driven for years with collapsed lifters, I would never go that far though) so if it happens there is some wiggle room, I did have a scare while back that ended up being a burned out header gasket letting a lot of clicking from the top end out making it sound like something way worse.

I put a 2.4 upper pulley and a few other mods on my ZL1 at 100,000 miles, makes 600 wheel and is happy.

It's alllllllllllllll in the tune. Shit tune will kill a 30,000 mile engine.
