Nissan Z vs the Camaro SS 1LE
The guys over at Throttle House are doing a review of the new Nissan Z. They did a track test, directly comparing the Z vs the camaro. How do you think the camaro did?
Gotta say I am not surprised by their observations. As someone who's owned a Nissan 350z track car, they're spot on. Also, seems like the Nissan Z still has some of the old Z problems from back in 2003. The Camaro really deserves more love and MARKETING! Last edited by Shiba; 08-17-2022 at 09:26 AM. |

Is it not on the same platform as the old Z? I'm not surprised it still has a set of the problems. For the money, I think I prefer the BMW Supra if I were choosing non-Camaro.

It is on the same platform (updated Nissan says). That's why it still has the Z34 designation, as did the 370Z, rather than being a Z35.

I was hoping that the 2023 Z would cost less than it does, which is one thing that has always appealed to Z owners, its pricing. I've configured the Z in Performance trim with the only option being blue paint and the car is still 52K. My 1LE was 46K and is a better performance car hands down as shown in the comparison. On top of that if you have to spend additional money to update the suspension, add better wheels and tires etc. to make the Z money you are even deeper in the cost. My 2003 350Z is highly modified with upgraded suspension (shocks, springs, sway bars and chassis braces), bigger brakes (StopeTechs front and rear), full bolt ons and a tune and it handles very well, but for what I've spent on it over the years I could have purchased a much higher performance car. I'm not going down that road again. It's a fun car on an autocross course though. My Z and my 1LE.

Overrated from day one period. Too slow, doesn't handle well enough. They make good cars for kids who give them stance and make them sound like shit with bumpers torn off. 1LE trounces it in every way.

Using the infinity Q50-Q60 engine was a mistake. The nissan Z needed to borrow the GTR R35 engine if they wanted to sell these for $50K-$70K and be competitive with the BMW Z4/Supra.

Didn’t watch the video but figured the 1LE would come out on top. The 1LE is almost the total package to me, looks, handling, decent power and available manual.

Grinding second gear, car is soft as pudding. Why would anyone buy that junk and keep it stock? And why buy it and modify it when you can get the new M2 for the same price. Camaro remains the best value for the money at this price range. Also the Supra is a way better buy, so many better options.

What a terrible car. The Z should be a special car and this one is a $50k dud. It really sounds more like a $35k car than a $50k car.

The new Z is just disappointing to me sadly. They could have put more effort into the performance aspect of it but they didn't.

It's a money grab. I think a lot of people were hoping mid/high 30's to start, not 40. Not only that, but they didn't even include an LSD. Probably because they know that would affect the sales of the higher trim.
