New life, and a new V8? GM scaling back EV commitment?!

I hope this is a clear sign GM is scaling back the pure EV commitment we have seen of late

https://apple.news/AXAFqEQt2Tfeb3KU3RY6jig

Not sure you will all get routed correctly with the link due to it being apple news, so if the link doesn’t work just google CNBC article about GM investing 1B in 4 plants and 579mil of that is going towards new v-8 small block tech at the flint plant!! too early to celebrate?!?

Other car manufactures are already scaling back on their big EV plans... Doesn't surprise me at all. They are only seeing what so many of us have been saying for a long time now.

Yes, so refreshing to see a manufacturer fight back on the EV regime! V8s for life!

That should be the Gen VI engines coming down the wire. Supposedly using DOHC CPC V8's replacing the pushrod variants we've all known. But the EV's are still coming. This has been hotly debated on the Corvette Forums for a while.

There is absolutely nothing in this article to suggest that GM is scaling back on EVs.

Exactly, however this may point to a split company model of gmEV and gmICE development wings. This may allow for better focus on any given project under the smaller umbrellas.

The elephant in the room is whether or not this may lead to a gen7 ICE Camaro or if aforementioned engines will simply be used in the full size trucks and possibly Corvette.

Doubt it.

This is 100% for the trucks. MAY make its way to the Corvette.

The trucks were going to be the last vehicles to fully transition over anyway. This 6th gen Small Block will set GM up through that period to 2035, just like the 5th gen Small Blocks set them up for the past decade.

Word round campfire is that the DOHC CPC V8 will replace the LT2 in the C8 and also be found in their new trucks. There's been a couple of insiders teasing some information for the past year or so that have also been dead nuts reliable on "predicting" specs on future models. Granted, they're coy about being too specific but, the information they've provided has been proven correct time and again.

Surprised to see Gen VI development. That being said I thought someone from GM already started backtracking that at least their trucks probably won’t be EV only by 2035.

To the DOHC speculation, I’m not sure I see that happening. I can’t see them investing enough to make the switch from pushrod OVH to DOHC unless they think we are at least 20+ years away from trucks being EV only. Also I doubt the Gen VI engines will go in anything else besides trucks and possibly the corvette. I don’t believe GM gives a rats *** about the Camaro. Sucks but if I was an exec at GM I wouldn’t care about a model that only sold 25k units last year either.

And my post only suggested they were shifting their focus away from an entirely EV commitment as of late, to one that clearly includes a future development of ICE. I didn’t mean to suggest this was an admission by GM they were doing any less Ev, just surprised they invested so much in ICE considering their approach the last few years

The future is EV!*

*Over the next 30 years, not the next 10 years, and it depends on advancements in battery tech.

Trucks are one of their most vital vehicles.

Hoping the Gen V Small Blocks will be able to keep GM competitive for a 20 year lifespan would be foolish of them.

Gen VI will bridge the gap taking them to 2035.

Hmmm, GM, or Toyota.

Which one is making the correct bet? GM, who had to be bailed out by the government and has shed market share 13 of the last 18 years or Toyota which has gained market share 11 of the last 18 years?

Of the top 25 best selling vehicles in the US:

GM - 3
Toyota - 6

I wouldn't count on GM knowing what consumers want to buy.
