New pavement at NJMP Thunderbolt

Some of you may know that Thunderbolt got a repave over the past few months and ill tell ya... in my opinion its a totally different track. T1 was opened up a bit, and the new pavement has a considerable amount of added grip. Its also noisy as hell! Tire screech whenever you are at the limit. That kinda freaked me out at first but got used to it, and its also a helpful reference.

I just added a seat rollbar etc. to my car and was excited to see how my times were compared to last year. Thats all out of the window with the new surface.

Please get out there and check it out!

Planning to run at Thunderbolt in May...pretty excited to check out the new pavement. I didn't realize it at the time, but I was at the last event on the old surface last year.

Its like a whole new track. They also pushed back the barrier after T1 (way overdue) and deepened the gravel trap to FIA standards. 12 inches.

Did you run with SCDA or Mass Tuning last weekend?

Yeah the weekend was hit or miss. I did Friday which was actually great. Decently warm, got some sun, and no rain.

I ran it yesterday. To me it didn't feel all that much different but turn 1 is definitely much more improved. They filed down the curbing in turns 1, outside of 3, and 12 to make it even and they added run-off area.

Ran a 1:26.50

Love you bro!

I was running a great set of Pirelli scrubs. The fronts were the new DHF series in 305/680/18. The rears were 325/680/18. I noticed the ZLE likes the taller 680 fronts versus the 660.

I went over my data from 2 seasons ago when I hit my previous PB and noticed that I had ran the taller fronts - but in the old DH series, not the DHF. So while the track is faster after the repave, most will drop only a second or so whereas in my case, I dropped 3 seconds due to fine tuning a few things and a little bit of aggression added in. haha

Other than the tires and scrubs, the car is stock. I was not running E40. That would have gotten me in the 25s and I suspect that my perfect lap is in the 1:24 range.

With all that said, this lap time would put me on the grid (at the back but still qualified) at a TA2 race. It's now gotten to the point that I don't know how much faster I want to go without a full cage.

This is insane lol, nice lap. I was running with a proper seat and harness for the first time, so my improvements might have come down to mostly those additions. Who knows lol

oddly enough, I feel like a 1:24.x is possible as my car worked really well. A seat and harness does help. You could hear me grunting in the high G corners in the vid. I miss having mine but it's too much work doing the swap imho for a car that I still commute in.

Yeah I will say the process of getting the bar, seat, and harness in the car was WAY more difficult than I thought it would be. And its so uncomfortable on the road compared to the stock recaros.
