Second reason for reviving tread is that I am dropping my car at Advanced Modern Performance so that they can install the Suspension Kit Part Number 84203549 (shocks, springs, etc.) and the SWAY bar kit part number 84401188. This is more commonly referred to as the SG3 suspension.

The Car is a BLACKED out 2019 Camaro SS2 with A10 suspension. AMP has already installed an upgraded wheel and tire package that included APEX SM-10 19 x 10.5 wheels wrapped in Michelin Sport 4S 305 30 19 tires. This combo is ROTATABLE and with about 4K miles on them , the tires show NO significant wear as of yet. PICS of car NOW is in the thread below.

This wheel and tire combination has been on the car for about 3 months and I couldnt be more pleased. AMP set negative chamber of all four wheels to be -1.5 degrees.

The car handles significantly better with the new wheel/tire set up than the stock set up but the current suspension is too soft and car has too much lean. I wanted to correct all that hence the reason for the suspension and sway bar upgrades.

I have asked AMP to document the individual part numbers that make up these two kits. Since they also have access to and create some of the fastest and best handling GM cars on the planet, I have asked them also to compare the best they can to their 2019 ZR1 Corvette and 2020 C8 corvette in terms of handling characteristics.

Having come out most recently a CAMARO ZL1 1LE A10 car, I wanted a car that had that handling ability but wasnt as miserable to drive due to the overly and in my opinion unnecessarily HARSH suspension (mainly shocks!!!) In testing smoother road surfaces, my ZL1 1LE handling was similiar to the Corvette Zr1 but when pushed near the limit, the ZR1 was more stable. If even slightly irregular road surfaces came into play, then that's where the ZL1 was unsettling because the suspension was completely unforgiving. The bottom line is the ZL1 1LE makes a pretty miserable daily driver.

This then is why I am modding the 2019 CAMARO SS2 with suspension goodies and such. I will post back here again when installation is completed,

We want to add a Camaro Convertible 6.2L A10 as a family cruiser. (I already have an ‘18 1SS 1LE coupe). I’ve located an LT1 vert with the OEM Lowering Suspension Upgrade System installed, but stock wheels and swaybars. Has anyone driven a vert with the factory lowering suspension? I’m a little worried about the lowered suspension kit adversely affecting the ride quality of the more structurally flexible LT1 vert, and I’m sure I’ll want to add a more aggressive wheel-and-tire combination. Any thoughts?

Well I can get back to you after the install to confirm but my expectations are that YES the car will have a firmer ride but certainly nowhere near the dump truck ride quality you get with a zl1 1LE suspension.

As far as wheels go, I would check out APEX wheels at www.apexraceparts.com You cant do any better than Michelin Sport 4S tires so I would stick with those. Check out APEX's fitment guide on their website. I am a firm believer in a rotatable wheel and tire setup better known as a SQUARE set up. The 305 30 19 tires and APEX 19 x 10.5 wheels are the largest ROTATABLE configuration you can have on a SS without having tire poke issues. A more conservative 285 30 19 tires on 19 x 10 inch wheels works great also.

Well the SG3 suspension has been installed and I am waiting on the alignment shop to realign. Also in this process, ZL1 brakes were installed in the REAR and FRONT of the car as well.

GM claims that the SG3 suspension lowers the car about 20MM per corner or roughly 3/4 of an inch from stock height. This appears to be true. The SWAY BAR kit apparently consist of 1LE sway bars which are much beefier than the stock SS units.

On the brakes, the REAR ZL1 brake set up appeared be identical to the stock SS set up. The ZL1 front brakes however were a significant upgrade with larger rotors and calibers.

Once aligned I will try and get some handling data in terms of lateral G's and such.

MY original idea was to also have a LT4 blower set up installed but since I will be primarily road coursing and auto crossing this car when NOT daily driving, AMP has proposed a BIG NA set up using my current LT1. This of course eliminates most issues due to heat soak and they have told me they can get me close to 600 RWHP NA so thats more than a stock LT4 anyway. In a sense, this will be for me what the 6th GEN Z28 should have been, an NA great handling car around 600 RWHP.

OK Well I have taken the car to two different road courses and the suspension mods I have been very happy with it. With the mods and the square tire/wheel setup the car handles fairly neutral. It pushes a little on the front end at the extreme limit but that has more to do with the lack of camber (right now it is set for -2 degrees negative camber and really needs -3.5 or so.

I purchased some VORSHLAG camber plates so I can easily so back and forth between -2 and -3.5 degrees camber for street and track use since I use the car as a daily driver. These are being installed this week.

I also am using MS 4S 300 treadware tires so that is a limiting factor as well but they handle VERY WELL for what they are. The car NEVER gets above normal operating temperture and I have ZERO brake fade with those Zl1 brakes.

With 100 treadwear tires I have no doubt the car should outhandle a Zl1 1LE expecially since the car is carrying 250 pounds less weight than a ZL1. Once the power upgrades are in place (580-600 rwhp NA) then that in my opinion will make a GREAT road course car.

Someone posted the numbers from one set a while back, but it seems GM changed the part numbers shortly after or made them unavailable through normal means because I wasn't able to pull them up anymore.

The ride is definitely firmer but by no means harsh. I would highly recommend it. When I did mine in JULY the part number for the lowering suspension kit was 84203549 and the 1LE sway bars were 84401188.

My understanding of suspensions is they settle in after 1000 or so miles, so it isn't overly harsh? How about going up inclines, driveways, etc?

YES

I can tell you for a fact that it lowered the front of the car about 3/4 of an inch and the rear of the car about a half an inch. I DEFINITELY would get the sway bars. I also upgraded the wheels and tires to APEX SM-10 19 x 10.5 ET22 with MICHELIN Sport 4S 305 30 19's on all four corners.

The measurement is about 4.5 inches of ground clearance just behind the front tires.

Those are sweet wheels, I like them. I'm sticking with my stock wheels for now, would like to eventually get away from low-profiles, I was never a fan of the massive rim/small tire paradigm.


I guess I will have to look into this upgrade for sure, and it is warrantied which makes it doubly tempting.

I'm gonna throw out the same question that I've posed several times in the past in hopes that new eyes will see it any give me some feedback:

Has anyone with a MRC equipped '16 SS installed the handling and lowering kits? I've got the handling kit and am very pleased with it. It's definitely a noticeable improvement on track, and only slightly more harsh on the street. I am hesitant to install the lowering kit as the MRC refresh is not available for 2016 cars. Does anyone have experience with this kit on a MRC '16 model?
