Dyno numbers in!

Well in a previous post I talked about getting headers and tune with my already installed vararam VR_DRX.

So in the end we got TSP 1 7/8 headers instead of 2 inch just so we wouldn't have clearance issues. J Rods speed shop in Rosenberg TX did the work and dyno tune.

Here are the final numbers on a mustang dyno which is notoriously low compared to a dynojet.

376hp and 400ftlbs of torque at the rear wheels on the mustang dyno.

It is night and day! The car pulled about 45rwhp more on the dyno then stock. A holy $#!+ came out of my mouth when I even gave it half throttle and I went a little sideways with the traction control still on a 35mph.

I got it on the freeway and did a 60mph pull and dropped it to the floor with traction control on. Left it in drive and let the car shift. It was like a missile. I let off very quickly and lets just say I couldn't believe how fast the speed climbed. WAY WAY faster than stock! It's definitely a 12 second car now if I can get traction and a good 60ft. It isn't as fast as even a stock gen 6 ss auto but because of the tune it shifts sooooo fast. I think it would give a stock 6th gen 6 speed SS a run for it's money and I know a stock 2015 5.0 has no chance against it.

If anyone is on the fence about tuning your L99 just do it! It's not even the same car now!

Thank you JR and Jrods for the work. You guys did an awesome job and did all the work in just a few hours.

so headers is your only mod you added and you already had a cai and u got 45rwhp with headers only or headers and a tune? if its on a tune then you can say u picked up 45rwhp with headers and cai right? on a mustang dyno? that would basically be higher rwhp on a dynojet then.....nice stat there !

To be clear that is with headers and a tune. Previously there was no tune so the vararam didn't add much in reality. The tune probably made the vararam gain more drastic numbers.

Also, the solo high flows have been removed. I also forgot New plugs(better plugs for tuning I was told) and msd wires added. So to be fair the total gain over stock is more like 45rwhp.

Either way dyno numbers don't mean much to me.I am also pretty much at sea level if that matters and it was optimum for temperature today 59 degrees. I am not a track rat so it doesn't really matter to me plus I know all these dynos are a little different. All I can say is that it made a huge difference. It is like the difference between a 3.6 gen 5 and a stock l99. It feels that drastic to me. I didn't think it would make that much of a difference in drive ability but trust me it does!

Congrats man. It's a great feeling being able to truly feel the power increase and justification for the money spent.

It just goes to show you how mild the factory tune on the L99/TCM is. Night and day.

Congrats on your newly found power. I remember driving my Camaro for the first time after having installed my headers and got my tune. What a difference!! A tune does wonders for these cars, ESPECIALLY if they're an automatic! The difference is night and day. Have fun and keep it between the ditches!

That’s awesome. Definitely in my next year plan to add headers, delete AFM and a tune. Haven’t decided if the CAI is worth the squeeze yet. Thanks for sharing.

Bolt on a power adder and when you WOT on the freeway you will have a John Force burnout. First time I did it, at 80 mph, it was butt pucker time. Now, it is just plain fun.

Big congrats on your new found power. My performance shop just called me this am and told me, my car is ready. Just had ceramic coated kooks long tubes, hfc, CAI cold air intake, air scoop, ceramic coated spark plug wires and a dyno jet tune. They told me the car is now making 425 to the wheels now on a stock engine. No other mods Enjoy your new beast and drive it, like you stole it

LOL, if you think the L99 is fast with just those mods, wait till you get a converter!
