I would find a left over 18' ZL1 and put that 35K towards that. WIN,WIN!

I went from a 2014 ZL1 to a 2017 SS 50th. The ZL1 was badass, the supercharger whine, eye catching looks, people were drawn to it. The SS however is hands down a much better daily driver, which is why i made the switch.

Well, looks like I need to join Camaro5 forums. Have a 2013 ZL1 with 22k miles being delivered to the house on 3/29.

I decided based on:

1)uniqueness (I never seen a ZL1 driving around)
2)Supercharger awesomeness
3)Price was right
4)Larger interior (I'd have 2 kids in the back at times)
5)Already took the 50% depreciation, if for some reason anything happened I would take less of a hit reselling
6)Looks BADASS
7)If, and I say IF, I ever wanted more power it so so easy to just crank up the boost on that bad boy and blow away a new SS. Get a pulley the size of a nickel on there

I'll post some pics before I move to the 5th gen forums.

The invoices show shipping weights for each car. 370 pounds for these 2 examples. I used a 2019 1SS 1LE because the OP specifically mentioned a 2019 1SS 1LE.

You made a good choice. Couldn't have gone wrong either way. Post pics here!

Congratulations, you made an excellent choice. Like I said in a previous post, driving wise and technology wise, the ZL1 and the 6th gen SS 1LE Camaro's drive almost exactly the same. They have almost the same wheel and tire setup (5th gen ZL1 rides on 35 series tires as opposed to 30 series on the 6th gen 1LE), they have the same Magnetic Ride and the same ride kind of multiple suspension setups that you can manually adjust. They are both ferocious track monsters that can dominate any track and they both look great. But the 5th gen ZL1 is definitely the more unique looking car.

What colour did you get and is it a stick or auto?

Stick. It's white with the black accents and black wheels. I might paint the rear spoiler black, not sure yet.

Nice! White is a great colour for the Camaro. It helps accentuate all the killer lines on the car. And the Tremec TR6060 is the best transmission to have. No other tranny feels better and smoother to shift.

The '12 ZL1 is barely 100 lbs heavier than the 6th gen ZL1. It's no Hellcat that's for sure (4,445 lbs). The 5th gen ZL1 has a significantly better lbs:hp ratio than the '19 SS A10:

'12 ZL1: 6.98 lbs/hp
'19 SS: 8.33 lbs/hp

The '19 SS would need another 88 hp (543 hp in a 3,788 lbs SS, per Car and Driver '19 A10 test data) to match the ZL1 lbs to hp ratio.

I theorize the '19 SS is nearly identical in the 1/4 mile and 0-60 because of traction control and the A10 (and rev match for the M6), and likely a more efficient drive train putting more effective % of the crank power to the wheels. I looked at acceleration times between the '19 A10 SS and the '12 ZL1 and they were nearly identical: the ZL1 was only 0.1 second faster to 60 mph (3.8 sec vs 3.9), to 100 mph (8.7 sec vs 8.8) and in the 1/4 mile (12.1 vs 12.2). I think the manual SS is a tenth or two slower in each of those vs. the A10 SS, but almost as fast. Trap speed in the M6 is definitely lower (115 mph vs. 118 mph). The 5th gen ZL1 traps around 118 mph.

It baffles my mind that a car with that significant of a lbs:hp ratio advantage is barely quicker than the much less powerful car. If you were to add 88 hp to the '19 SS, it would flat out destroy the 5th gen ZL1.

So, to me, I would pick the '19 SS over the ZL1 - likely safer, newer (obviously), nicer interior, warranty, probably better gas mileage (I haven't confirmed), more modern tech., and with full bolt-ons would be quicker than the supercharged 5th gen ZL1.
Safer?? Doubt it. But better gas mileage on the SS confirmed. And not faster than a bolton ZL1. And you can use the $$ you save in depreciation to buy those boltons. I had a M6 5th gen ZL1 and a '16 M6 SS and both many times down the 1/4. Same driver same times stock, with both a best of 12.3.

And the SC whine lets you know you are driving something special in the Z. They both are great performance cars, but the ZL1 is just more interesting.

Normally I dislike white and prefer black or dark grey. But on the ZL1 it has the nice black cowl and other black trim it looks great in white, especially with the black wheels.

I'm super excited, and also scared. It's a monster

One of the factors was yes a bolton ZL1 will MOP THE FLOOR compared to a bolton new SS. It's all about the supercharger and BOOST, as well as the ZL1 having a stout drivetrain. I've been reading about bolton ZL1's that are putting out crazy numbers destroying hellcats.

Congrats and welcome to the ZL1 club... the C5 and C6 forums are combined, so you dont have to worry about posting in one or the other..

Congrats on the new purchase! I was in the same boat, looking at the 13 ZL1's vs. the newer 6th gens. The beauty and performance of the 6th gen 1LE's won me over though. I got lucky and found an 18 1LE with 2400 miles for $36k. Now on to some bolt ons to get me close to 475 rear wheel!! I have a feeling you are going to enjoy that supercharger!!
