Stick vs Auto Horsepower
Please excuse me if this was already addressed, but as I'm shopping I noticed that the HP on the Automatics is only 400 compared to 426 for the sticks.
Is this really true? If so, is it a different 6.2 L motor? Why the difference is HP? Does it make a noticeable difference? |

Don't let it sway you one way or another. Get what you want then let the modding begin.

Like the above poster said get what you want but I can verify the stick is more fun for me and I use the car as a DD in traffic daily. Glad I made the stick choice. Can't speak for the difference but I do know the car gets a lot more attention shifting with my NPP exhaust with quad tips and it just feels well like a badass car and sounds sweet shifting

Same from me. Follow your heart... I can say that stick is the way for me, but this is obviously not the case for everyone.
From what I've read, the L99 Auto can actually be quicker than the LS3 Manual. +/-26 HP difference... which obviously does not transfer completely to the wheels... what is it, guys, like 10-15rwhp difference? Barely (if at all) noticeable? What I have heard about the L99 Autos is how that dang AFM kicks in at gawd awful times... or that it just needs to go. The AFM system is what puts 4 of your cylinders to sleep to conserve gas, energy, all that junk. For our cars, its more debilitating than helpful. Luckily, there's a simple mod that I believe will not void your warranty, that completely eliminates the AFM on the Automatics. LS3 Manuals don't have that, btw. |

Those are crank numbers, not rwhp.

Thanks guys.
I think I'm done with sticks. I'm the same guy that may be trading in his Mustang in a previous thread because the stick in those cars is a super POS. |

The MT82 is a piece of crap. I love my LS3, but L99s are faster than the LS3 will ever be, when they are tuned

Easier to mod a manual, but both respond well to mods.
We got the L99 so my wife could drive it when she chooses. We have cold air and an axle back exhaust and made 355 rear wheel horse power and torque. That translates to about 426 flywheel now based off of roughly 20% driveline loss. You can defeat the AFM with a Range device easily. Plugs into the diagnostic port and keeps you in V8 mode full time. |

Yes... but the L99/A6 is quicker in the 1/4 mile.
Sorry LS3/M6 guys - I just had to.

In stock trim, all the top spots are easily held by LS3 vehicles. An L99 car will put down on average about 60 less rwhp than a manual. An M6 is the faster car stock-for-stock and with mild bolt-ons from a dig, and significantly faster from a roll. When you get into the sub-11 second category you're going to find automatics taking over because at that point the most cumbersome thing is launching and shifting. A large torque converter with an automatic will have an advantage off the line and shifting through rapidly ending gears since it takes more of the human element out of the equation, therefore decreasing the likelihood of the mistake. It's not the transmission making it faster - an automatic will always lose a lot more power through the drivetrain and be a less reliable vehicle all things equal - it's the human making it slower with a manual. The biggest con of the automatic is the active fuel management. An LS3 motor is more basic and more easily modifiable than the L99. The L99 does not enjoy the aftermarket the LS3 does. It, due to its design, will be more expensive to modify and less reliable simply due to more moving parts.
