Actually, GM "concluded" that the 2018 ZL1 1LE they took to Nürburgring was only available with the 6-speed, and taking the auto a year or two later (for $$$) was not going to give them the marketing bang for the buck, as they decided to practically abandon the Camaro after 2019. Plain and simple.

Thanks for the feedback. I enjoy both the A10 and M6 transmissions and was considering trading out my A10 for an M6 just to switch it up but after crunching the numbers I can't justify it. I was entertaining the idea if I could swap them for a few grand but now with the $3,900 price increase on the 2023s and interest rates doubling since I bought my 2021, even if they gave me what I paid for my 2021 ZL1 it would be an expensive move just to switch the transmission for the fun of it. Not to mention, missing features that need to be retrofitted like heated/ventilated seats, backup sensors.

For street driving, I think the M6 in the SS is a bit more enjoyable as a result of the shorter gearing. I could probably justify going down a notch to the SS 1LE since the price increase for 2023 is less at $1,800 but I not sure how much I would regret giving up the LT4 power for an SS 1LE with M6 once the novelty wears off. As others have mentioned, it would be nice to own one of each for when the mood strikes.

Both of these transmissions are great as you can see from the videos but for the street the gearing of the M6 is so tall I feel it is harder to enjoy on the the street at street speeds. On a road course where you can wind out those tall ZL1 M6 gears looks like great fun though.

I don't try to heel toe, love the rev-match.
Don't get me wrong I would love to experience the M6 with the rrv matching I bet it's fun in its own way!

I completely disagree as well.

If you watch Bill Wise around the Nurburgring in the 1LE, he shifts from 4th to 5th gear in the low to mid 130s, hit 167 mph in 5th and topped out at 177 mph in 6th. The A10 ZL1 around the ring hit a top speed of 180 on the same straight away. The 3 mph difference can easily be attributed to the difference in aero and/or weather conditions. So please explain how the M6 is such a dog at higher speeds.

Let's not exaggerate, the M6 1LE reached 173 mph for half a second at the exact same spot where the A10 hit 180 mph for a similarly short moment, and those were the actual top speeds the cars reached at this circuit. Please check the videos again.

This still does not mean the M6 would be a "dog" per se (and I do watch Bill Wise row the gears and take corners at 130-140 mph there with almost religious awe), but the difference is greater, it's never a good idea to twist raw data to make a point.

I’ve had both now and actually went from a M6 to the A10. I really enjoyed the M6…..the only thing I didn’t like about it was I had a hard time starting off smoothly with it. I never really figured out why and I’ve had a ton of MT cars that I had no problem with. The rev match feature is awesome. I went A10 this time because honestly I’m just getting a bit lazy the older I get. I love running errands in this car and just putting it in D amd cruising around. My wife can drive it to which is a plus when we go out I don’t always have to be the DD anymore. She really enjoys driving it to. I will say the A10 equipped car does feel faster overall from the butt dyno. Both are great, can’t go wrong.

Yeah, I heard the M6 in the ZL1 requires a bit more finesse due to the tall 1st gear, which requires a bit more gas and slip of the clutch to get it moving.

Hi all,

Some very interesting viewpoints in this thread. I have only owned a ZLE with the MH3 TR-6060. I believe it to be an outstanding manual with perfect gear ratios for the LT4. My ‘22 car is much better in off idle transitions than the ‘18 car was, I assume due to much better engine management settings than in ’18. My ‘18 always seemed to be running very rich, blackening the exhaust pipes regularly. My ‘22 ZLE doesn’t do that.

I don’t track my cars, using them as weekend toys for fun rides to wherever! I don’t mind shifting the M6 as in my mind it’s part of what makes this car so much fun. The A10 cars may be a bit faster in certain realms, but the fun to me is the available power and great, smooth shifting. The M6 can be short shifted or wound out and to me is just a big blast to drive.

IMO, an owner’s enjoyment factor and primary usage is paramount. I believe automatics are the only game in the future of performance cars, but I’m very glad I got what will probably be one of last and very best manuals ever.

Take care,

JJ

I went manual because:

1) It's a tremec.
2) It's not my daily driver.
3) It's engaging and get a rush from shifting gears. (carving back roads and I want to track it at least once)

Track it. If you aren’t a regular track rat, even the Non 1LE will be capable of more than you can give it on a road course. Run the SC3 tires. They stick amazingly well once heated on a road course. You will be shocked what your car is capable of.

Getting this car in auto is a waste, just get a C8. C8 doesn’t come in manual, they’re also a dying breed.

Auto is a lot less engaging, does everything for you.

OP, I've tried both the A10 and the M6. In this car, I would most definitely go M6 without hesitation. Yes the A10 is nice and a great transmission but when driving the M6 version...my God I fell in love. It was so much more entertaining. Check out this short video as it really makes you feel you want the manual version.
