It's not really about how many times a year you track your car. It you're hotlapping the car, you will boil most DOT4 fluids and your brake pedal will feel "soft" which reduces confidence. I've had soft brake feel with Motul 660 towards the end of a session. I haven't had that issue with Castrol SRF.

Braking demands for your ZL1/1LE are likely a lot greater (heavier car, from faster speeds) than what Silent's V6/1LE can ever see. Just sayin'

Good point - I won't be reaching anywhere near the speeds a ZLE can!

The V6 1LE has mostly the same running gear (rear brakes are different) as the non-1LE SS but is just slower and a bit lighter.

Thanks all for your input!

Reviving this old thread - How much brake fluid do I need to flush and change over to DOT 4 or 5.1?

2 liters should do a full flush.

I don't even think you need 2 litres. I did my brake fluid flush last weekend and I didn't even use up the 1 litre bottle of Castrol SRF I had, and that included a Ranger clutch "bleed".

And just some feedback and observations: the Motul RBF 600 I put in towards the end of summer last year was definitely getting stale. I went to a newbie-level track day about a month ago and we weren't even pushing the cars, and my brake pedals would get noticeably softer(but not dangerously soft) by the end of a 20-minute session. When I was at the same track last year, the RBF 600 was still fresh and I was definitely pushing the car harder, I didn't have that issue so yeah, the fluid definitely absorbed some water in the garage over the winter. There was even a Mazdaspeed6 that went off the track at one point because the RBF 660 in that car got really stale and boiled, so he lost the brakes.

I did mine the two-man way and flushed until the fluid coming out is nice and clean. Still took me less than a litre. Better safe than sorry, though. You can always return the bottles that haven't been opened.

Might be a good time to stock up on SRF. This is the best price I've seen ever. Last year I paid $74

That's why I keep a garage dehumidifier on at all times, at least trying to preserve it as long as possible. I'll see how long the RBF 600 we put in last October will stay usable.

Does anyone know the part number for the DOT 4 cap? Swapping mine out for DOT 4 and would like to have that cap.

Welp, that's not really an option in an apartment, and our winter isn't too cold, but very rainy.

In street driving there really won't be much difference. It's on the track where it will become an issue.
