35 psi is nuts - I assume that is fully built bottom end
It's actually on the lower end for boost with the stock turbo frame. Some folks push them to 40-41psi. The bottom end is stock crank, aftermarket rods, aftermarket pistons, and aftermarket bearings. No aftermarket studs or anything. If I went with an aftermarket turbo, this setup should be fairly solid til around 1100 and then I'd want to look at sleeving the block for safety. If I wanted to push 1500+whp on the car, I'll need a few other things like, an aftermarket intake and a ported head.

I actually almost traded the car for an M4 Competition xDrive. But, I didn't. In the end, I didn't want a car that was that heavy and honestly, I couldn't get over the looks and exhaust sound. The 5-cylinder, to me, just sounds significantly better. To that end, the M2 just doesn't do it for me, either. I'd rather have an SS 1LE or something than that.

The new S58 engine is pretty bomb proof though (as far as I know) and should support 30+ psi. I prefer to aesthetics of the M2 slightly but both look pretty good

Oh yeah. That S58 is incredibly stout and you can make it seriously fast with minimal mods. If you don't mind the sound of them, go for that car.

None of them sound like an LT4, but turbo cars are alot of fun. M2s hold their value extremely well so buying new is very low risk. It's also the FINAL ICE M car according to BMW

RS3s do too...I paid $54k in 2018, and was just offered $58k by a forum member who was looking to buy one.

We'll see if that changes when the 22 models start hitting dealerships.

If you're driving the car hard I don't see how these mouse motors hold compression long term at 30+ psi, that is EXTREME stress - but I haven't seen any studies on the topic. I talked to one builder who said after about 30k miles it's probably time to freshen the motor (depending on use)

Also, how do you manage oil blowby at 30+ psi, that must be crazy, too

I honestly couldn't tell you about the finer details about how and why they live so easily at those boost pressures but, they do. I do have an oil catch can and a transmission catch can on the car but, they've been largely dry for the most part. If I were drag racing, road racing or generally abusing the car each time I take it out, I can see how the setup would require some TLC after 30k miles. 35psi is not that bad at all for these 5-cylinder cars. Hell, some of the Evolutions out there are pushing 60+psi.

I can tell you that there are only a handful of shops in the states that can reliably build these engines and have them perform as expected. It's tricky to balance a 5-cylnder engine but, nearly all of these cars are still running around with mostly stock major components until the 1000+whp range.

Now, on my LT4, I'd rather it be the opposite. When I had my Z06, I was hellbent on reducing boost via efficiency. I may do the same thing with this car. Longtubes, ported heads, cam and a nice lid might do the trick. Get the boost down to maybe 6-7psi and that would be plenty for me. Or, I'll go the Magnuson 2300 route, like I almost did on my Z06. I just have to find one. I like that they're lighter than the stock 1.74L blower.

Anyhow, I don't want to derail from the OP's intended line of questioning for much longer. If you are genuinely curious or have more questions, shoot me some PM's.

Was at a cars and coffee last week. Some guys and myself were talking about my car. One guy walks up and says, " I have six cars and they are all stock, what do you need more power for"? I said back, "what do you need six cars for", he left the conversation.
