TR3160 Floppy Shifter Rebuild or Replace?

I need some help with exactly what's going on and what parts need/can to be replaced.

I have a 2017 V6 with the TR3160. All of the sudden the shifter has gone almost completely floppy. Doesn't matter if its in gear or not it is super loose. It still shifts into all gears just fine but I have to be deliberate and guide it into each gear. Its as if a spring or bushing is gone all of the sudden.

I've been searching all day for replacement parts. I found the entire shifter assembly or just the Hurst short throw kits. Is anyone familiar enough with the entire mechanism to tell me if there is a rebuild kit available for this or am I just better off ordering a whole new shifter assembly?

Does anyone have an exploded view of the shifter assembly?

Video I took of the floppy action and shifting in and out of gears.

How many miles do you have.I have 32 k on mine and it feels like when new , kinda sloppy and rubbery. I know this transmission is used in some mustang v8's including 5.2 voodoo with modifications. Surely it shifts better in a $60k car.I would like to know if parts are interchangeable.

I have about 79k on the car. A LOT of the miles are city miles so the car sees a large amount of shifting.

I had a Datsun 210 that was worse. A mechanic replaced plastic grommets where the stick goes in transmission. It worked great after that . I'm thinking the 3160 has rubber grommets that should be replaced with plastic or alloy grommets.

Your post made me think I can replace the grommets with harder ones if it is like the Datsun which I think it should be. I'm going to look into it.

The stick on 3160 has a linkage, no cables. GM parts has a 1le shifter for $277 or maybe bushings need to be replaced.

I replaced my shifter assembly after it started rattling, and it wasn't the shift knob bolt. The large bushing on the joystick side walked out of the boss and the control rod started riding on that boss. I replaced it with a Hurst short throw and has been fine ever since. I think GM missed the mark with that shifter assembly just a tad...Replaced at 45k, now at 105k

I found the issue, need help locating part

After reading every post I can find on the shifter and this same or similar issue, I got under the car. The issue is with the two bushings pictured below. I took pictures under my car and screenshots from the Hurst Short Throw shifter install video. Both of these bushings need to be replaced. I am going to do it myself if I can find what these are and order them. Any ideas? I have not gone to the parts store nor the dealer as of yet. I have been looking but don't know the part number and finding pictures on listing is next to impossible so far.

Video for reference, started at 10:33. Pause there and you can see what I am showing in the pictures. https://youtu.be/RVeMXjma-lM?t=633

Hopefully these illustrate the part I am looking for.

I had the same problem with a floppy shifter and created the solution after many hours of figuring out the problem and testing... New aluminum linkage bushings. Because guess what, when you spend the $2k to install the new shifter it will just happen again. This is the permanent fix.

Order Here. Next batch arriving end of December

We have a thread going on about it on the forum here: https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showt...3#post11255503

I own a small business and will create a link to purchase them on the website in December when my final test units come back.
Thank you for updating this thread. I'll be glad to buy some bushings. I still have the floppy shifter going on and had all but given up hope. Come back and let me know when you have them for purchase!

Happy Thanksgiving! I decided last night to just finish the website and get everything ready. https://www.fullmetalbushing.com

I notice now you have the funny video with the fart sounds. My son got a kick out of that. Do you mind if I use that as the reference video for this issue? I never recorded my shifter before the fix :(

Received, thanks. Will gather up a few more orders and send in for the production run. I just didn't want to have $1k worth of bushing sitting at the house without knowing the demand. I doubt it, but will also see if the local Tampa Chevy dealers have any interest. That's my ultimate goal, to get them to do the right thing and replace the bushing instead of the entire shifter. They charge that stupid $200 diagnostic fee too when they absolutely know what it is and make you wait for hours.

Will keep you updated on timing. I expect to place the mfg order on Dec 12th. In the meantime I'll throw the car on a lift and make an overview video on how to install.

Update: 1/1/2023 - Happy New Year everyone. Orders received through December officially shipped and I have a few more sets currently in inventory. I got to the auto shop and video'd the overview of installation. Hope to hear some feedback from others on how they like the hardware after their install. Thanks
