He didn’t say which brand it was but I guess I was just curious if this is a unusual or rare occurrence and these cans are generally safe for engines.

2- you have to do some seriious dissasembly to be able to get to the valves and take some pics. That’s not something most people are going to do often. So hard to take pictures.

There's definitely folks who have enough miles to see this "problem" and with all the mods people do you think one person would have pulled the head off with like 20K miles on it and taken some pics, but guess not. Just hoping someone does it before the spring so I can make a decision about doing a catch can!

I am hoping to be taking my car in when the weather warms up, which should be a month or two. My supercharger whine has gotten loader, so I am hoping that this will be covered by the extended warranty or the drive train warranty. My hearing is not that great, but I can hear it when I open the hood. I currently have 40k+ on my car, yeah I can't stop driving it. I finally got a commuter car, so she can get a break. I was going to ask if they can scope the intake and take pictures. If they do, I will gladly share with the community the results.

This is great info. Thanks.
Feeling even better about skipping the catch can fad.

Thanks! Finally, something to actually reference. I'm not seeing an obvious issue with coking here. Will probably skip the catch can based on this. Not worth possibly screwing with my warranty.

So I think the CRC stuff would be good to do below 20k for sure. But like 60 or 80k maybe it would be to late or useless to trying to go through a bunch of build up.

Yeah, from what I read in the comments on CRC you should probably only use it as preventative maintenance otherwise you can get larger particles to break away and cause issues. I'll probably wait a while before using something like CRC though. Want to see what the feedback is over the next year or so.

I did a non scientific experiment last week.
I called CRC to get more info on this stuff, they told me, its made to dissolve deposits NOT break them away. If they are broken away it would be bad for the cylinders and cats and they would punch holes thru the cats. The most cleaning is really done in the one hour heat soak. So I felt good trying this stuff out.

You will see a pattern here.

Sons Sonata with 55k... after heatsoak, smoked like a SOB!!
Bad drivability for about 1 mile then ran perfect.

In-laws Kia Sedona with 35k... after heatsoak, little bit of smoke. drivability was perfect.

My car 9k miles. after heatsoak, no smoke at all. drivability was perfect.
