Anyone have a Z06 as well?
Having a really hard time deciding on a C7 Z06 M7 or a 6th Gen ZL1 M6. I keep going back and forth, back and forth.
I sold my C6 ZR1 and miss having a fast car so I want one of the two mentioned above. Wondering if anyone on this forum has both or has driven both and can give me real, unbiased opinions on what they think about both cars. I feel like the Z06 ticks pretty much every box for me. I personally think it looks better than the ZL1 from the side and the rear, however the ZL1 looks better from the front. The Z06 is lighter, and with the same powerplant is going to be a bit faster, stock for stock. The Z06 has a removable hardtop. I personally like the Z06 interior a bit more. And I doubt I would ever really be using the rear seats in the ZL1. The only for sure positive about the ZL1 over the Z06 is price. I would get either one used. And looks like I can get into a low mileage ZL1 for around $52,000 whereas a Z06 for me would be around $65,000. So a difference of $13,000 to me is a big deal. I don't really want to settle though and I feel like if I get the ZL1 just based on price...I'm settling. I don't know, guess I'm just talking out loud. Maybe someone's words in here will be my light bulb moment where I know which one I will end up getting. Don't suppose anyone lives in or near Las Vegas and has a ZL1 (or Z06) and wouldn't mind taking me for a ride. I would buy you a full tank of gas as a thank you. This will be strictly a weekend street car, not track time whatsoever. Last edited by PackManDan; 06-17-2019 at 05:09 PM. |

I had a 14 ZL1 and traded it for a 16 Z06, worst mistake ive made. im back in a 19 ZL1. the Z06 is fast, but the overheating and limp mode if you track the car is not acceptable. the ZL1 is just as fast and no problems overheating so far. just my .02 cents

The overheating issue was fixed in the 2017+ I'm fairly certain. I'd stay away from a 2015 and 2016 year model Z06.
IMO, it seems like you're set on the Z06. Might as well get it. |

I have both 17 ZL1 and 19 Z06. I’d take the ZL1 any and everyday over the Z06. The ZL1 is more comfortable, and the Z06 is on every corner as too many of them. I get more looks on the ZL1. Plus when C8 comes out the value of C7 is gonna tank. That’s just my .2c

I currently have a 2018 ZL1 (A10) and 2017 Z06 A8 (Z07). I like them both for very different reasons. There is really no comparison. I enjoy taking the top off the Z06 and cruising back country roads with my better half sitting in the passenger seat. The ZL1 is more of an every day driver kind of car. I don't really care about speculation on depreciation.....they are late model cars and they are ALL going to depreciate. It depends on what void you are looking to fill, as far as which is the best. You cannot go wrong with either car......they are both very capable and very fun to drive. I see the OP is in Vegas. Having lived in Vegas for 7 years, I would probably go with the vette. Take the top off and cruise Red Rock and up to the Mountain Springs area.......Always a nice drive!!

But if it all comes down to looks or having a semi exotic vehicle, I’d take the Z06. |

I have a 2019 Z06 and a 2019 ZL1/1LE. Both cars are a blast to drive....the Z06 provides a much smother ride and better gas mileage but the ZL1 is just a beast. I have a hard time just deciding which one to drive.

that's a tough call. I have a 2015 Z06 z07 pkg car with a 7spd manual and its never overheated. I like the shifter in the 6 spd zl1 1le better although i just put a MGW in the z06 and have not driven it yet so we will see if it improved it enough (hunt for correct gears especially on down shifts with the 7 spd) Looks for me are a toss up except I really don't care for the raised spoiler of the zl1 1le as it makes the rear of the car look awkward when looking at it from behind. I think the zo6 handles better as it should being 400lbs lighter. And if you are after more looks or attention (not why i bought either one ) hands down the z06 gets more looks and people filming it then the Zl1 1le for me but it could be the color (the z06 is daytona sunrise orange met and the zl1 1le is Garnet red Met). If I had to pick one If the MGW shifter helps the shifting and I did not need a back seat (I don't just me and the wife) I would go with the z06
If you ever make it to NH I could take you for a ride in both no gas needed (the cars will use plenty but you don't need to buy it)

I have both a 2018 Zl1 manual and a 2016 750 hp manual Z06 and absolutely love them both. the Z06 turns wayyy more heads and might be a shade quicker in stock form. I have zero heating issues with mine bc I have an aftermarket ice tank and I run methanol. Very fun car and yes the removable top is a nice plus although mine seldom comes off as I race it in Mexico a lot.
the zl1 advantages are the rear seats, and it is a hair cheaper to mod (header and exhaust wise). it gets you away from that mid life crisis car stereotype (if you fit that mold lol which I don't), and slightly more practical as a daily driver if that is what u want. if I had to make a choice it would be the Z06 over the Zl1 bc of the attention it gets (especially when idling). |

the z06 may be slightly harder to get in and out of but once in i don't think either is more comfortable than the other. That being said the z06 set on tour mode rides slightly smoother than the zl1 1le but the seats are comfortable in both (i have the comp seats in the z06) I could see where the ride in tour mode will be smoother in the standard zl1 but the seats won't be anymore comfortable.
My daily driver rides rougher than both of these cars though (2017 gmc 2500hd duramax all-terrain)

So with that being said, was your only regret that the Z06 overheated? If it didn't overheat would you have sold it? |
