I find it sad they don't want to dance as it would really add to the pot on US made muscle. GM is really the only game on this side of the pond willing to tackle bragging rights with overall sports car performance & we have one of the best dollar for dollar.

Best thing that could happen for GM is to see the 500 be faster than the ZL1 to perpetuate the competition. Maybe even mopar will get off her ass & produce another car that is able to actually use it's steering wheel again against the stand & camaro. Would really like to see the Challenger / Charger make a chassis to handle the road course & put the big three all back into the same game.
The link to the article is below but here's the good part...

" In an email to The Drive, a Ford Performance spokesperson said the GT was able to break the record despite having "just a small support crew, less than ideal circuit conditions, and [racing driver Billy Johnson] driving the Ford GT on that track for the first time."

We then asked whether the company had plans to go back with a full crew on a better day, with a lighter Competition Series car and a bit more motivation in order to get an even faster time. Armchair racing fans of the Blue Oval, bad news: The answer is no. No additional record-related trips to VIR. No record-related trips to the Nürburgring. No record-related trips to any track, in fact.

"We have no plans to go for any lap records at VIR or other circuits going forward," said the Ford rep. "As Jamal Hameedi, chief engineer of Ford Performance put it 'We’ve got new cars to work on.'" "

God that has to be deflating to the Ford and especially GT fans. Kind of a shame. I like the fact our cars on this side of the pond are going over and laying down very serious times against cars that are near unattainable for most due to cost.

The cars that end up being the most sought after aren't the ones that do things any better or faster than any other. How much will the ZR1 be worth in ten years? 1/2 the price of new? The GT will be worth double. Respect to GM for the ZR1 but a GT is a GT.

...or 10 years from now, people will only remember that the GT was the overpriced car that got embarrassed by the ZR1.

But how many of us enthusiasts are actually seeking a car approaching a 1/2 million dollars?? It is out of reach for the common consumer...I'm not a brand snob fan boy & simply like well made cars. Having said that, it would pretty hard for me to thump my chest about how grand my GT is knowing a better driver could wipe my ass with a ZL1 for way under 6 figures. You simply don't get performance approaching said sticker.

Yeah, I get the collectability & investment dollars spent but again that is for another class of fat wallet not equal to 95% of the buying public...the entire value is strictly in the investment side & have to say, I would have a big shit eat'n grin on my face to pull up next to a GT in my ZR1.

Honestly, if we were given $500k to buy ONE car at a Barrett / Jackson...how many would get a GT vs other vehicles in that price window?? The GT wouldn't even be on the list be it looking for performance or collectability for what I personally want in a 1/2 million dollar vehicle.

I believe you may have ventured to the wrong forums sir.

99.9% of the men and women are drivers here first and not the 1% folks looking at expensive garage/hanger ornaments. We talk about performance not collectibility of a limited production vehicle that can be beat by cars half its price tag. Go drive your GT it’s a car man!

The GT looks cool but honestly it’s a joke for the performance and money. I would rather have just about any Ferrari over a GT if I want to look cool. Give me a used F355 Berlinetta so I can pay for the maintenance as I am going to drive that mother!

That’s my opinion.

It will be a broke down GT with no parts available getting beaten by electric cars that are AWD that no one will care about.

I’ve noticed your comments seem to be at the opposite end of the spectrum which leads me to believe you are either trolling or you have no idea what you’re talking about. I’m leaning toward the later.

I like the GT a lot, but agree with Brettmess24. I can't even consider buying one when I can buy better performance in a ZR1 for 1/3 the cost.

IMO the biggest reason for all of us to buy the ZL1 is the value proposition. We buy cars that go faster than others which cost more. With that said, I am happy the GT500 is going for props on HP and on 0-60 numbers. I would hate for it to follow the footsteps of the GT.

I will let time decide this one, but if one looks closely at the production stats:

Ford GT - 2017-2020 Production years
- 1350 units
- 500K, overpriced, underwhelming performance
- worst sounding car over 100K (what was Ford thinking)
- Carbon tub chassis and suspension not designed by Ford, car isn't made or assemble by Ford (research Multimatic)
- To date, 0 IMSA GTLM Championships for Driver or Team, 1 for Manufacturer (C7 has 3 Team/Driver Championships '16, '17, '18)

Corvette C7 ZR1 - 2019 Production year (one year only)
- ~2700 units (<40% Manuals = 1080)
- Designed and built by GM
- Beat Ford GT VIR record with Jim Mero (engineer) driving vs the Ford GT with a Race Pro driving

I'm no collector, but I know historically which cars resonate, and it isn't the ones that cost more but didn't win their class titles...

Ford is seriously afraid of the track these days. I hope the GT500 changes this for them as the GT has already failed imho.

I would guess this is fake news. Hasn't Ford already stated that top speed will be limited to 180-mph, this has 212-mph.
