2017 ss vs 1LE track and autocross
Looking to pick up a SS, and have a question. I test drove a 1LE and
it was awesome. If I am going to buy another set of wheels anyway, how would a SS with suspension mods ( sways, springs, adj Koni's) compare to 1LE package on the track? Are the 6 piston Brembos and ediff that much better than the regular SS. I am a Vette guy and have a C6 Grand sport with suspension mods. My car handles way better than the same with Magride. Plus the cost to replace parts is scary. Many Vettes with Magride are disabling their shocks. I figure a SS could be had for 8k less than a 1LE, that's a lots for mods. Thanks! Start by reading this thread, which was submitted to the Camaro team to get their thoughts.

Front magride struts are about $330 a piece on Rockauto, and rear shocks are $250. Not cheap, but I wouldn't call it expensive. The Ediff is nice, and there's no way to get it on a regular SS.
The benefit with the 1LE package is that everything is designed to work together, and it works really well. I think it's a pretty good deal for $7500.

The bigger 6 pistons brakes are a big deal on a real track, but not so much in autocross.

If staying in SCCA Street for autocross, the 1LE is now in BS vs. when it started in AS. You can have 19x10 / 19x11 wheel set with 305 RE71R's, for example, on the 1LE. Your width is more limited on a SS which limits proper tire width. I'd go SS 1LE all day long and get one with PDR. Used ones are $27K - $32K on AutoTrader right now.

I agree the 1LE is awesome, but don't sell the standard SS short. The wheels and tires are the biggest single difference. My SS is a TOTALLY different car on ZL1 wheels/tires (same as 1LE). I also have the 6 piston Brembos, but honestly cannot tell that much difference, but I expect a more experienced driver probably could. If you pick up a '17 & up SS, you can convert it to a 1le specs other than the ELSD for a couple of grand. I would have already added the FE4 springs and bars if I had a '17 or later. The MRC reflash is not available for the '16's

When I was shopping the actual difference was about $5k and you get a lot over a 1SS for that price.
Don't forget the Recaros and HUD, and that the electronics and PTM modes are all designed around the 1LE tires and suspension. And it looks significantly better, especially if you add some ZL1 style side-skirts. That said there was a SS non-1LE modded for autox that showed up at the last race and it was incredibly fast. It was an X-class car so lots of mods but damn, it was fast! He destroyed everyone in both A-Street and CAM-C! I was surprised.

When I originally bought my 17 1SS I wanted a 1le but could not swing the extra few grand at the time. I also a nationally competitive autocrosser and the base ss was classed better so it worked out.
That said i now can afford a 1LE and I have a 2020 on order! I am extremely excited mainly cause its the car i wanted in the 1st place and stock class is now competitive! Sold the type R a few weeks ago and ordered my car. should be in march or April!!

I know this should go in another thread but they need to address the recent power increase on the M3P. Turning a 3.2sec to 60 car into a sub 3sec to 60 car is a good power increase. The car was classed on BS with the lower power level and now it's been bumped up, time to re evaluate it.

Yes, definitely. But It's not so much of a worry for me as I run CAM-C with my stock car. It's neat what they can do with the technology but it opens a can of worms with other competitors. There is still more power to be had in the Model 3 Performance(and all of their cars), if Tesla decides to open it up more.
