Hey everyone...

I purchased the GM darkened tails from a member on here and the passenger side light has gotten some water/condensation in it the last couple times I have washed the car. I have read that this is usually covered by warranty but my question is... is it still covered by warranty even if they were not purchased from a dealer? They are genuine GM tail lights.

If not, has anyone found a lasting solution? I have not taken them out yet.

Should be covered by warranty... if you buy a used car it is still covered after you bought it. As long as they are OEM.

I noticed the same thing in my drivers side. I purchased mine from a Chevy dealer. Where would a person go to hit up the warranty? Back to the dealer as anything else that would go bad?

Bringing my car to the dealership in about a half hour. I will post results. I am certain I will need a new tail light. There is sitting water inside the housing. It has gotten very bad.

No warranty because I bought it 3rd party. They were going to charge me $375 for 1 tail light.

No thanks. Ill take my business elsewhere.

Bummer. Did you tell them that you bought 3rd party? Or wait until they asked for a receipt?

They naturally get condensation inside with temp swings.

The problem is the VENT on that unit is not clear or is obscured.

Find the venting, clear it and around it.

I waited until they asked for a receipt. They didn't even look at the light. They were too worried about where I bought it from.
@Camaro5 I will certainly try that. However, there is an apparent leak in the top where the lens meets the housing. I basically poured the water out of it when I took it off.

I guess i could use like flex tape or some kind of sealant to cover the hole.

Whiskeyfed- I had a similar thing happen to me with a new headlight I replaced on my mustang. It was happening exactly where the lens meets the housing. I used a good quality high temp silicone and put a thin level bead all the way around. Haven’t had a reoccurrence since. That was 10 years ago. It’s worth a shot.

Alright. I will try that. Ill try to avoid spending another 400 on a new set.
