Can this be fixed easily?
It was a late night from work and I had to squeeze into a tiny spot which I normally can make but I guess I misjudged. It scaped a painted wooden frame a little bit. I was able to scratch off a good portion of it but I didn't go any further with what's left since those seem deeper.
Is this something Meguires 205 could fix? I never polished before so I guess this would be the time to start. Or would I need the 105 compoum counterpart to get this one out? Or is it too deep :( |

Start by cleaning well and use a clay bar to remove the paint transfer. Follow with a dual action polisher, a white pad and some 205.

Try polishing, if it doesn't work, maybe a 2000 or 3000 grit wet sanding. Then polish going through the 2-3 steps depending on the product and you should be good to go.

Most of it does appear to be paint transfer. Follow the steps mentioned by Kirk. Once you remove all the paint transfer, you will be able to see what actual damage was done to the paint.
The main problem is with where it was contacted. The convex edges of the car have the least amount of paint on them, so proceed with caution when polishing these areas. Never wet sand on convex edges. Unless you have a Rupes Ibrid Nano, or some other type of mini polisher, getting a machine into those areas will be extremely difficult. I've had good success by hand using a foam wax applicator, and Carpro Fixer compound. It usually finishes down well enough that a finishing polish isn't needed. Menzerna FG400 works as good, but is more expensive.

I'm still a beginner when it comes to auto detailing so I panicked a little bit and came straight here. I have some knowledge and read a lot. It's just putting it to practise and knowing what to do for particular situations. My gf brought me the ultimate line compound and polish since her brother had a spare duo and gave up on detailing. I was able to get majority off with a good wash and scrub with my mitt. Clay bar the stubborn small bits. It revealed some hairline scratches and I thought since I have the products let's test it. I put a dab of the compound and in one rub session (did everything by hand) it came right out. Followed it up with polish to prevent haze and then topped it with Pete's 53 Black Pearl to protect it. Looks brand new again! Thanks to my Camaro6 family Happy 4th of July |
