Dash Cam Hardwire w/ Gen5DIY harness
I was looking for a clean way to install my front facing Rexing dash cam. I'm not fussed about a parking mode, I simply want the cam recording when the car in use. I really did not want to mess around trying to tap into the fusebox.
When I wired my wife's minivan dash cam, I power-tapped the rearview mirror and that made for a really clean / easy install. Looked for a similar solution for the Camaro, and took a look at what Gen5DIY had; the closest I found was the radar detector/gopro harness. https://www.gen5diy.com/products/16-...52668dde&_ss=r Asked the team over at Gen5 if they could suggest a solution, and they said they could modify that harness to delete the radar detector wire. Perfect. Gen5 did a really quick job of working the order. The customized harness cost $64.99 shipped. Considering I'm paying for someones time as well as the harness, I'm fine with that for the solution I was after. The install was as easy as this video makes it look: https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_c...&v=7QH9JiNiT1o My own photos of the install are shown below. All the wiring tucked nicely into the headliner. I spent less than 15 minutes on this, and would have been even quicker if I hadn't watched the install video a few times just to double-triple check I was doing things right. Very happy with this solution. Thanks to the guys over at Gen5DIY - quality service and product! |

That is super neat and easy.
Do you know what fuse that circuit is on? |

I honestly don't know.
I'm not even sure how the harness taps the power lines to output the 5V, all I know is that it works |

The little white box is the step down transformer.
I am probably anal, but I wanted my camera on a fuse of it's own. I piggy backed onto a 20 amp circuit. My cam requires a 2A fuse. Not trying to suggest anything is wrong with your way at all. Very clean and a hell of a lot easier. |

I actually bought it from him, currently using it for my Aukey DR02D without issue. Supplies power on engine start and cuts off when the Engine is stopped, works like a dream
