Please people, you bought a very unique, high performance car, learn how to do the very simple maintenance (oil and differential fluid changes) yourself, it isn't hard and at least you'll know they are done correctly with the correct fluids... (Please DO NOT THINK A DEALER will always do things right, you will be VERY surprised how often they screw things up...) Literally for about $50 you can buy a decent set of nylon ramps and an oil drain pan (and a proper size wrench)... This car is about the easiest car, maintenance wise, I have ever owned, it is made to be worked on... You DO NOT need a lift, but it is easy...

I appreciate all of the responses. I have two things to say about this. 1. I'm not trying to be an ass here but in my original thread I plainly said "For those of you that let the dealership change the oil in your ZL1". I knew I would get comments from some of you about not letting the dealerships work on your cars. Not all of us feel that way. Not all of us want to or are able to work on our cars. 2. It's great if you do the work on your cars. For those of us that have cars that are still under warranty, when you do your own work you have no proof that the work was done or that it was done correctly. If the dealership does the work there is proof of what has been done. If something happens with my car I don't want to have to fight with GM to get warranty issues taken care of. |

That being said, those of you that do your own basic maintenance, that’s awesome. I have a lot of respect for that, but I also have respect for those that have another(mechanic/dealer) do it.

I had the oil changed at a local dealer, so thought I'd post the cost:
Mobil1 0W-40 SuperCar 17.68/qt x 10 (part no. 19432866) = $176.80 PF64 Filter 12737083 - $8.23 Labor - $24.95 Shop supplies $4.49 Document retention fee - $6.27 Tax - $11.37 Total $232.11 Needless to say document retention fee is totally bogus if not shop supplies as well. On top of that they did a multi point vehicle inspection (which I didn't ask for) and recommended an alignment because apparently toe in is out on the front right side and showed excessive wear. My car only has 3500 miles and front tires still have mold lines on outer tread blocks, so there's barely any wear on either front tire ... definitely won't be going back there ever. I rarely take my cars to dealer or any shop for service and already changed the oil once in this Camaro, so was going to do it again myself but figured what the heck. |

My local dealer, just down the road, does it for right around $150. I could do it myself, but I just don't want to. I've been working with this dealer for almost 30 years and they've always been good to me.

Just changed the oil today in my 2017 2SS. Oil and filter cost about $125 total after tax. And that was for 12 quarts of oil and a filter. And I know it was done correctly.

Maybe it is time to open up a "Ma & Pa Oil Change Shop" and actually use good products, do good work and charge fair prices (it ain't rocket science!)... What a concept... Unfortunately, if I did this I probably wouldn't be able to sleep at night... Because I'd have a line of customers around the shop wanting oil changes 24 hours a day because everyone is tired of getting screwed...

Welcome to inflation. My dealer is also charging $17.75 per quart for oil. I went there to buy the oil and filter yesterday and when I saw the price jump (just a few months ago it was $12.75 per qt.). After taxes it would have been $200 for oil and a filter.
I just bought a filter (also price increased from $5 to $9) and then ordered 0W-40 Supercar with 2 day delivery from Autozone for $120 delivered after taxes. AZ has a 20% off home delivery online orders over $100, so it took the cost from $12.75/qt to $10.20/qt.

Oil change for v6 , 5 quarts Pennzoil platinum 5w-30 $25, GM oil filter $10. It takes a little more than 5 quarts. I always get 5 quart bottles .

$62 for 10 quarts of Mobil 1 ESP at Auto Zone on sale and $6 for the Delco filter at Walmart. No way in hell I would pay a dealer $200+ and then have to worry if they even did it right (like add enough of the correct oil).
