Oil pump beginning to fail 22”

I have a 2022 SS 1le fbo tuned by gpi. I run full e85 all the time. Last night in heavy traffic I noticed while on a stand still my oil pressure was around 25psi part acceleration is around 40, heavy acceleration is around 42. Haven’t done wot I don’t want to blow the engine lol. Are these symptoms of a failing oil pump? I messaged a local known shop quoted me $1700 for everything with oem pump, should I go with a katech? Or should I do a oil change and see if that’s the problem? Oil seems good and full

The OEM pump on the LT1 has pressure rising with RPM, with low at 28 at idle and in the high 50s near the redline. There is a cross-over point at 5800 RPM to a high output stage, which typically bumps the psi by about 10.

If you are actually at 25 under mild acceleration that does seem a bit low, but 42 under heavy acceleration might be fine, so long as the RPM is in the mid range (under 5000).

Are you sure that your oil is actually full? Did you let it sit overnight before checking, and leave the dipstick out of the tube for 10 mins before reinserting to measure? This LT1 is an odd PITA for checking oil on. Takes forever for oil to drain back into the pan and pulling the stick out tends to pull oil up the tube with it (thus the 10 mins to wait for it to drain back down).

what was your pressure before? In my '23, idle is around 38 which I think is normal for a '23. Not sure if the '22's had the higher idle pressure as well, maybe someone with a '22 will chime in.
If replacing the pump, I'd for sure spend a couple hundred more and get the Katech.

What oil are you running? I know that the 0W-40 dexos2 will show a bit higher pressure at idle than the 5W-30 dexos1 on a stock motor. It's possible that the specific oil you're running could be skewing the numbers a bit.

I agree this seems low. I run 5w-30 and do not recall seeing pressure in the 20's.
The variable displacement system defaults to high output, and only switches to lower displacement under light load cruise conditions.
This link contains the output graph to which N. Camarolina was referring:

I have 23' 1SS 1LE and idle is always right below 40 (38ish to be exact)
4k rpm goes to 50
Hope this helps

You said you were sitting in heavy traffic when you noticed it. What was the oil temp at this point? My turbo's can get my oil pretty hot. I run 20/50 and its usually 31 "warmed up" but I noticed yesterday after traffic my oil temp getting up to 240 degrees and pressure down to 30. Cooled off later it was back at 31 at warm idle.

Dude your fine, a couple of these guys are misreading what you wrote.

At a stand still he's about 25 psi, once going it gets up to 40-42. Thats normal, your oil pump is connected to your engine speed, at higher RPM you have higher pressure at lower/idle rpm the pressure drops.

You may notice its high when you start the car, that's because the oil is cold and doesn't move very well, when the car/oil warms up it moves more freely, that's one of the reasons your aren't supposed to stress the engine until your oil gets to operating temperature. Anyone who attempts to replace your pump with this being the only "issue" is a scammer and you should find a new mechanic.

When pump starts to go, you might see message on DIC, otherwise pressure fluctuates A LOT, going as low as 10 near idle.

NORMAL OPERATION: It should stay around 25-40 when HOT, don't recall it going much above 40 even in higher RPM.

Ok so I changed my oil 0w-40 esp and it’s about the same. Drove around for about 20min oil temp right under 200f. On drive and on a stand still it reads 25, driving normal 42, about 5k rpm’s reads 50, and on park it reads 30. This seem normal? Look at the end of the vid to see the 25psi

That looks pretty normal to me. You worried oil pressure and here you are running it through the gears!

Would like to hear from other '22 owners. Mine NEVER goes below 38 psi, hot idling. 0-40w. Same as Alexk. It appears Chevy bumped the pressure, but don't know if it was on '22's or '23's.

To Jonathan, you think your oil pressure is low you should see my ZL1’s. It has about 27,000 miles and still hanging in there but keeping fingers crossed that it doesn’t fail.

I'd get it replaced before it leaves you stranded on the highway or even worse, with engine damage...
