Trunk Divider delete

I remember on the 5th gens, there was a mod where you could delete the cargo divider and not get the "extend cargo shade" error. You just had to be careful putting the top down if you had anything in the trunk.

Has anyone figured this out for the 6th gen?

It appears to have something around the right snap on the shade, probably a magnet. You could probably work around that somehow if that is indeed how it actually works.

Haven't heard of one. I would imagine you could just cut off the divider around the plastic pieces that attach to the posts at the top of the trunk. As long as those are connected together I wouldn't think you would have an issue. I wish Chevy would have made that divider differently so it attaches to the back of the seats and runs under the top when it's down, then makes a 90 degree turn up to those posts. That way we could more easily slide things under the top when down.

Is there any room under the top when down? Maybe room for a book or shirt lol.

About 4”. I keep my spare floor mats under the top. My Husky mats fit perfectly.

It's actually about 8". See my previous post here. Unfortunately, the video I took showing this is no longer available.

Gang, I've figured this out!

After lots of experimenting, I was able to determine that the only thing that is required to be in place for the top to operate properly is the upper connector on the passenger side. Along with some of the divider material surrounding it.

See pic for the example. I ended up taping mine in place to keep it snug against the sensor. Sometimes the wire loom for the trunk moves the part of the remaining divider, knocking off the alignment.

Please don't tell me you cut up a perfectly good zl1 with a mod like that

Well if you take the car in for the divider recall, there will suddenly be an “extra” divider available. You just gotta keep the right one and cut up the other right one.

I guess I don’t understand the reasoning. The divider protects the top from damage as it can’t go down when it’s not in place. Pull two snaps and lay it down and you have the whole area with top up. So mod it and I still have to open trunk and move objects to put top down. I see no advantage to this reasoning.

1. I don't keep anything in my trunk. Therefore 99% of the time, there's nothing the divider protects the top from.

2. With the divider in place, the trunk light is basically unusable. So keeping it up means on the rare instances where I do use the trunk, if it's at night, I can't really see anything in there.

3. On the rare occasions I did put it down, I only ever put it back up when I tried to put the top down and got the shade extend error.

4. The replacement part is $91. Cutting the divider (and ruining it without finding a solution) was a risk I was prepared to take. Since I was able to figure out how the sensor works, there is no risk.

I can cut it further to clean it up and make it look nicer, and I'll probably do that on the next rainy weekend.

Just checked and found no divider recall for a 2017 Convertible, so maybe only for the 2016?

Since I leave my divider in 99% of the time, I'm planning on just cutting out most of the center of the divider and replacing the deleted material with a net. That way the light will be effective. I will post a picture when I'm done.
