Competition should make everyone better. I would take a charger as a second choice and a challenger as a third. In fact in 2015 the srt 392 chally was my first choice until I discovered the 1le. Gorgeous car and $5 grand less

Styling stills sells cars in this class. You get a semi fugly looking design and make look even more fuglier for a mid cycle update, you're going to lose sales.
Also, to some extent, taking more practicality out of a car by reducing rear seat room and trunk space compared to the competition (ie Mustang) will not be good for increasing sales. No matter how hard 6th gen owners try to convince themselves that their Camaro's are now sports cars, it still competes primarily with the Mustang and to a lesser degree the Challenger. |

Just for an apples to apples comparison, as many will not argue the price is a huge factor here:
Starting prices: Challenger R/T: $34,295 Mustang GT: $35,355 Camaro SS: $37,495 The Camaro may out perform the other two in stock fashion, but at $2,100+ more than the Mustang and $3,200 more than the Challenger starting out, you can get a lot more creature comforts or mods before you start catching up to the base price of a Camaro.

I believe the slumping sales are due to a combination of missteps by GM.
The 6th Gen was simply an evolution of the 5th Gen. The 5th Gen was such a smash hit; therefore, GM decided to take it and make it better. Cut weight, bump the power and add some tech. They achieved their goal, but the majority of car nuts want to see a Revolution when a new generation of vehicle is being engineered. Look at every generation of the Camaro except the 5th & 6th. They were all a departure from the previous model. No two look the same. The 5th & 6th look very, very similar. GM guys wanted something new. What they got was an updated 5th Gen. Dodge is keeping their Challenger design from '08 (because of financial reasons), but they keep adding new models year after year. ScatPack, Widebody variations, Hellcat, RedEye, Demon, 1320, etc., etc., etc.. They're keeping people interested. I tend to agree with pyroguy on the next GM fault. The prices went through the roof on the 6th Gen. I bought my '11 SS Convertible (LS3) loaded in April or May of '11 for ~$41k (if I remember correctly). When the 6th Gen SS Convertibles came out, I checked them out for curiosity sake. The same car as mine, was now ~$10k more! Geez! That will turn off a lot of folks, immediately.

My son bought a Mustang 2 years ago. He couldn't afford a Camaro.

Hardly. A co worker bought a black 6th gen 1le its a nice car. That and the zl1 look so much nicer then the plain SS. People are so quick to dismiss looks....but it is such an important factor in a purchase.

Yes, appearance always has been and will continue to be, purely subjective.

To some. Many people aren't fans of it as it went European, but many on this forum think it would be a great addition to their garage, or have come from 5th gen and gone 6th gen.
It is a great car, but not the greatest on the planet. Many with the A8 are severely upset at issues they've had with it. As long as the thing holds together, I was actually pleasantly surprised with the stock performance. The 6th gen is definitely an upgrade from the 5th gen though, as it should be.

If GM made a modern incarnation of the 2nd Gen like Ford did in 05 with the S197, I betcha it would sell like candy. Or bring the Chevelle back ffs! The 1st iteration of the 6th Gen never really appealed to me. The most recent one really doesn't.

I'm just saying to the average person it's a great looking car. People on the forum are biased.
