OEM ZL1 Side Skirt Gap FIX

I installed my new ZL1 side skirts today and I wanted to show everyone one how I did it. I did not use any zip ties to fix this problem. It is actually a very cheap and easy fix. I'm not throwing anyone under the bus for using zip ties but I think this is the better option.

This fix should be less than $10 depending what you have laying around the garage.

1. Remove the inner wheel liner (or at least move it out of the way.)
2. Remove the two lower bolts that hold the bottom of the fender.
3. Using a step bit enlarge the front bolt hole in the fender to 11/16".
4. Then replace the front bolt with a new longer bolt. Place 1 washer on the outside of the fender and place 8 washers between the fender and the fender bracket. This should be 1/2" unless you are using thick washers. (I used a M6 1.0 x 40 mm. It can probably be anywhere between 30mm to 60mm long)
5. Reinstall the rear fender bolt. You may need to use a spacer, I did not.
6. Using a step bit, drill a 3/8" hole directly inboard of the factory front mounting position (see pictures)
7. Remove the furthest forward mounting tab off of the side skirts. (should be front yellow clip)
8. Install the side skirts starting at the rear of the vehicle. Once all of the lower clips have been locked in and the side is mounted you can mount the front clips into the fender.
9. The rear fender clip should make a sturdy pop as it clicks into place.
The next clip may not seat as firmly.
10. The furthest forward clip should not be installed, You need to install a plastic body panel retainer. (see pictures) Through the hole that you drilled from the top into the side skirt mounting hole.

I hope this helps you guys out.

This will obviously push your fender outwards a little. When you re attach you wheel liner, you may have to shimmy it around to fit but there is enough slack to do this. Sense the spacing only happens at the front bolt, the rear of the fender where it meets the door is not affected. One thing to note is that you may have to slightly increase the size of the rear bolt hole in the fender because it may be at a slightly different angle.

I'm sorry that the pictures are so large and for some reason the website decided to rotate some of the pictures and made it harder to understand

So in general you are just making a spacer for the fender to match the ground effects. Does this cause any issues with bending the fender?

No issues. No bending no clearance issues. Works perfectly.

Now THIS is the workaround I've been waiting for, I'm gonna order a set tomorrow! Thanks for the pictures and detailed instructions. Did you just eyeball the new 3/8 hole or should it be a certain distance center-to-center inboard of the existing hole?

Hole size isn't critical. Just a close size.
