thanks for responding , I'm probably not using the correct term, just want to remove the metal shield on the inside of the hood to have custom painted. I'm not sure how to post a pic but its on page 44 of the manual in black. it's the part the water deflector bolts onto .

This seems like an appropriate place to ask this question.

Will there be any damage caused by water if the water shield is permanently removed?

I feel like leaving it off will provide better cooling/heat extraction under the hood.

It will let rainwater or water from washing your car straight into the engine bay. You don't want this. It's fine to leave off for nice weather cruises or track days, but you should keep it on otherwise. Never know when you'll get caught in a storm in NJ!

Based on me removing the carbon fiber insert and what bolts are left, I am going to assume removing the perimeter bolts on the heat shield is all you would need to do to remove it. I am going to make another assumption that wouldn't need to remove the rain guard to do that, because the rain guard is attached to the shield. I am sorry I couldn't be of anymore help.

Alain,

If you remove the heat shield permanently, I think you lose the ability to attach your center piece insert.

I'm cutting it all out who needs it lol! Seriously if my lid spacers make a difference might as well let the blower hang out.. maybe I can find some nice trim pieces.

I guess rain water getting on the pulleys might eventually lead to some problems. I’ll leave mine on.

Maybe I missed it. Pay attention to bolt lengths. They are different. This posting was helpful in doing my cutout for the Whipple. Separating the pan from the hood I used a plastic squeegee for doing window tint. Worked great

Not that I am doubting anyone! But I measured all of my bolts. All 17 of them, and they were all the same length.

I didn’t measure them but the 4 on front that go into the carbon fiber cover an two two in the back we’re longer. Don’t know if someone put a long one on a outside if it could dent the hood.

All the bolts that hold the extractor on are the same length. You can tell bye the head of the bolt what is a long bold or short bolt. The longer bolts have a recess on the head of it while the short ones have no recess and are flush across the top. The rain guard also uses the longer bolts. Just as reference.

Since I just went thru this,

the carbon fiber extractor only gets long bolts (with the indent) and the rain guard also gets the long bolts. Only the black metal shield gets the short bolts with the flat/rounded head (basically all the ones around the perimeter. The short bolts do not go anywhere else.

Did anyone need to purchase these as well as the extractor? Item #7?

Curious how easily they are to remove without getting damaged.
