ZL1 1LE OEM Wheel/Tire combo on an SS 1LE

Has anyone tried going from their OEM SS 1LE wheel and tire set up to an ZL1 1LE wheel and tire set up?

If so, did find your lap times were quicker or slower with the taller side walls, gripper tires, and lower rotational mass?

Picture for attention

The ZLE wheel and tire combo is absolutely faster than the OE SS 1LE parts. Only challenge is fitting them properly. I think I’ve seen it done on here.

To my knowledge, the side quarter panels on the ZL1 1LE arent wider than the ss, is that true?

I don’t know for certain either way.....but I feel like I read a year or two ago that they are the same part number....but maybe installed differently on the ZL1 cars so that they mount wider. Could be total BS. Don’t know.

G3Rs are now offered in SS 1LE sizes. So no need to change wheels to get the tires. I'd also imagine Apex 19 rims would be cheaper than ZL1 1LE stockers if a second rim set is preferred.

The GY3R's have been talked about and listed in in 20" 1LE sizes but has any made it to market?? I have had an order in for probably almost a year now and the delivery date keeps getting bumped out constantly (Summit).

Thanks! I wasn't aware of the delays. Cheers!

The front fenders are wider, I believe the rear quarter panels are the same.

Yes, ZL1 and ZL1 1LE fenders are about 5/8" wider on the front compared to the SS. However, with the smaller diameter of the 19" compared to OE and assuming you have more camber for the track alignment, I'd think you'd be able to fit the ZL1 1LE fronts. If you're really concerned, you could always roll the SS fenders a bit even.

There are a few people on here already running 19" 305s up front without issue, and I'll be doing the same this summer. Check out Provoste's or Ryephile's build threads, I believe both of them are running similar sizes in the front. I don't think you'll have any issues fitting the rears, either.

I've run a 19" 19x10.5 305/30/19 ET 17 with no issues, however i am running -3 camber. It does not poke. I am now on 18x10.5 305/680/18 (essentially a 305/35/18) with -3.2 camber, and here is a photo of the fitment. These will fit similarly to the way a 19x11 ET 12 would fit, however the inner clearance becomes troublesome with 11" wide wheels without camber plates.

This is the ideal setup, including the garage!

What are y'all using to get the extra camber? Camber plates or drilled out holes on the struts? I have yet to be able to find camber plates for the 6th gen Camaro and definitely not the SS 1LE version

There have been multiple camber plate manufacturers, but now the Vorshlag seem to be the best option as they have just came out and Ground Control also has some.

Little bit of both. Ground my struts before the camber plates were released. Vorshlag is a better product than the other offerings. GC raises the car 10mm
