Considering Trading in just to get the new Trans

I have a 2016 with the old 8-speed.

At low speeds it shifts annoyingly hard/strange. And it has since I've had it.

I went through the whole replace torque converter and trans flush process. And that fixed the shudder. But the shifting still bothers me, technicians don't seem to have a clue on why it does it and there are no "codes thrown".

I rented a car the other week when I flew out of town and even though I missed my V8, I was envious of how smooth driving around town was.

So my question is, how good is the new 10speed trans at shifting? I'm considering a ZL1 or 2SS just so that I don't bounce around when going from stoplight to stoplight.

I would bring it another dealer, the new A8 fluid flush and TCM reprogram/relearn has been working well for us that have had it done...now, will it last long term??? Who knows at this point, but after mine was done a few weeks back, shifts and feels awesome, better than when it was new!

Keep in mind the new A10 on the new SS models is a derivative of the A8 in the current SS models. The ZL1 gets a different A10. Maybe wait a bit to see how the new A10 does over time before trading?

If warranty isn’t a concern try having a tune done. I’ve heard that a good trans tune on the A8 is night and day difference.

You are under warranty. Get it resolved!

Why spends thousands more on a vehicle that is identical, with the exception of the trans, MyLink, and some minor cosmetic changes

I think it would be more correct to say:
  • The A10 is a completely different transmission than the A8.
  • The A10 in the SS is a derivative (lower max torque spec) than the A10 in the ZL1.

And a lower max torque spec compared to the A8.
